Stupid Question - USB 2 Ports Into USB 3 Header?

So my old-ish case has 4 USB 2 ports in front. If I connected them to a USB 3 header on my motherboard, would they work? And if so, just at USB 2 speed right? I assume yes and yes, but I've only really worked with USB 2, and all I know is that all the plugs look the same, so I'm not familiar with these.

ensure to get the pinout on the USB 2 Connector and the Pinout on the USB 3.0 Header, USB 3.0 has additional Lines in it compared to USB 2.0/1.1/1.0

thats the design of the USB 3.0 header plug that goes into the USB 3.0 Header jack on the motherboard, Most current cases use that connector as some cases had a passthrough cable that hooked up to the back USB 3.0 Connectors on the motherboard

I expected something like this... oh well, guess I'll just use a USB 2 header and hide some excess cable.
