Chrome is World's Number One Browser for a Day - StatCounter

Google's Chrome narrowly became the world's top internet browser for the first time on Sunday 18 March 2012, according to StatCounter, the independent website analytics company. The firm's research arm StatCounter Global Stats reports that Chrome topped the polls in India, Russia and Brazil, all of which contributed to it becoming the number one browser for that day on a global basis.

"While it is only one day, this is a milestone," commented Aodhan Cullen, CEO, StatCounter. He added that Chrome still faces a battle to unseat its main rivals including IE and Firefox in many regions. Chrome remains in 2nd or 3rd place in China, United States and Germany, for example.

"Whether Chrome can take the lead in the browser wars in the long term remains to be seen, however the trend towards Chrome usage at weekends is undeniable. At weekends, when people are free to choose what browser to use, many of them are selecting Chrome in preference to IE," added Aodhan Cullen, commenting on the weekend surges in Chrome usage.

StatCounter data is based on over 15 billion page views per month (4 billion from the US) to the StatCounter network of more than three million websites.

I'm happy with IE9. I actually turn on the menu bar as the UI is a bit to sparse for my tastes.
I tried Chrome awhile back and didn't really care for it. Haven't used it in some time though, so I'm not familiar with their latest version.

Gave it a shot recently ? Try it, you might be surprised. The implementation of webRequest by the Chromium team has really upgraded its capabilities. I was as reluctant as you, mostly because it didn't block video ads, but now it does away with those too. I have both Fx and Comodo Dragon installed and switch between them regularly and I've never once seen an element blocked by ABP for Fx that doesn't get blocked in Chrome as well. I run Gundlach's Adblock in Dragon and it's great.

Now using Waterfox. No more crashing or lags I got on Firefox. Now there is nothing Chrome can do better. Never have liked Chrome, and never will.

I have chrome and its OK browser but I hate that I had to install a extension to make CTRL + B to bold text and other short cuts.

Couldn't care any less until damn Google fixes their idiotic extensions. Their very own extension which has been broken for months and despite everyone complaining about it on the extension page, they still haven't fixed it. Grey GMail icon when you open browser. Also AdBlock is glitchy and slow. Where GMail Watcher and AdBlock work great in Firefox.

Google actually allows ad blocking at all in Chrome? Perhaps there is no way around it but still I'm surprised as such is their bread and butter.

Rates from these statistics collector websites don't really mean much to me.

BTW, W1zzard if you happen to read this, can you do a quick query (providing that you store requests user-agents) and see whats the most used browser here on TPU? I could bet that "the fox" would top chrome .

All the comments about adds on chrome... what ads? Installed adblock plus and I forgot what an ad looks like. Not even youtube video adds. Nothing. zero ads.

If the browsers block advertisements, and they are free ... why exactly are there browser wars?
(I'm really tired today, forgive me if it's obvious)
