This is a solid card in your price range and a little bit of wiggle room - used to have it in a rig in my house... highly recommend.

Unless you are looking to go to the other side (ATI)..

Best card in that price range for a new card: PowerColor AX6750 1GBK3-H Radeon HD 6750 1GB 128-b...
Step down: http://216.52.208.185/Product/Produc...rder=BESTMATCH
If you have a slightly higher budget: SAPPHIRE 11202-00-20G Radeon HD 7750 1GB GDDR5 PCI...

Other than that you might be able to find a Nvidia GTX 550ti or a Radeon HD 6770, 6790, or 6850 perhaps used in that price range.

I would go with a used GTX 460 or AMD 5770. If you want new then newegg has some GTS 450's

I seen a AMD 5830 the other day for 80$ shipped on hard forums or anandtech cant remember which one.

Here ya go, its sunnyD, He has a account here on TPU as well.

The 7750 is going to give you the best overclocking of the bunch most likely. The 550ti will be about the same, however it will put out more heat. The 6750 will be the best overclocking new card you can buy within the budget you specified, but is by no means a "good" card in the realm of enthusiasts, however if you don't need everything on maximum it is a decent card. You may be able to play with maximum settings at 720p and below for many games however.

Here's a quick list;
http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2...d%5B5222%5D=on
The Radeon HD 7750 performs more or less exactly the same as the 550ti, but uses much less power. So if you're looking at new cards, the 7750 is likely the best deal if you can spend $30 more. Used you are best of with a 6850 if you can find one used in your price point, otherwise the 550ti.

Keep in mind that most of the lower end cards wont really show much in terms of real world gains from overclocking. You will learn a fair bit in terms of what it takes to get clock speeds stable, like appropriate cooling, voltage, researching what that type of RAM or what revision core can usually handle and things like that - which is really invaluable information. But it's not like you can take a $50 card and add a bit of clock speed and suddenly compete with a $500 GPU. Typically the rule of thumb is gunna be any game you can already play will be smoother but any game that is unplayable wont be any more playable. But the fun for most people is in ever climbing up the ladder of benchmarks for GPUs in their class or trying to get over the first hill of 1GHz core or 1.1 or 1.2 or what ever the marker may be.

Just food for thought I suppose.

I have a backup GeForce 8400GS which overclocks like crazy (it has a passive heatsink but you can strap a 80mm fan on it with 2 screws). Can play Painkiller and Half-Life 2 on high details and modest resolution. :P

A 6770 would be ideal (though its only a 5770), less power usage, less heat and decent game play even on High settings at 1080P resolution.

Second hand HD5850 are a good deal. They should cost around what you're looking for i think, but they still deliver quite some punch. Way more than all the brand new wannabe cards like HD67xx...

ya...i am left with only one option...to buy a second hand card if i am to buy the card immediately...but then again if the second hand card blows up on my face...then it will a total loss of money...cause who ever knows a little bit about computers, are bound to push their gfx cards to the limits and beyond!!! after that using a gfx card is like having intercourse with a gandma!!! :-P lol
