Intel, Microsoft Among World's Most Ethical Companies: Ethisphere

Ethisphere released its latest list of World's Most Ethical (WME) companies. The list honors companies for ethical practices. In its own words, Ethisphere defines WME companies as "companies that truly go beyond making statements about doing business "ethically" and translate those words into action. WME honorees not only promote ethical business standards and practices internally, they exceed legal compliance minimums and shape future industry standards by introducing best practices today."

Sorted by industry, you will find two short sections covering computer hardware and computer software. Under the hardware section, Intel Corporation is the only other honoree than Hitachi Data Systems. Microsoft and Adobe are honorees as some of the most ethical computer software companies. Find the complete list (sorted by industry) here.

Would be interesting to know what is the basis for this estimation.

Good to see Apple on that list with all their talking about 'non-arsenic' LCD screens and 'recycled aluminium'. Good to see that has secured them a spot in the list. Well done Apple. Well done.

It's "Fluffy"

The World's Most Ethical (WME) Companies designation recognizes companies that truly go beyond making statements about doing business "ethically" and translate those words into action. WME honorees not only promote ethical business standards and practices internally, they exceed legal compliance minimums and shape future industry standards by introducing best practices today.

Good that they're NOT on the list (along with Foxconn)

They don't count anti trust as bad behavior, it's a white collar crime, LOL

I think what he means is that what Apple is saying about their products is in part total BS as it did NOT secure a spot for them on the list. It must be southern-hemisphere humour :P

How they estimate?
The first question they ask is - "Do you have sweatshops in china?"
If you don't, then you pass.

Hmmm. AMD did not make the list? Kind of fly's in the face of all those that say Intel is an EVIL company! Why did AMD fail to make the list? Looks like Intel is NOT as EVIL as you AMD fanboys want to believe.

AMD recently made a different list for one of the most ethical. When you see companies like Apple/MS on the list you realize the term ethical means who pities me the most aka who lines my pocket for the vote.

Do you know this is the case for sure? If not why do you make this assumption? It sure is funny that any time Intel makes a list like this you AMD fanboys are quick to discount it and tell us just how AMD made a list too. Why can't you just take it for what it is and accept it? Oh because AMD did not make the list and is not on top of Intel.

Symantec and Time Warner both made this list, which makes me think that it is bull. Also, Intel was found to be anti-competitive and behaved very immorally towards AMD. The list is obviously only defining "ethical" in a very narrow way. Symantec is famous for creating software that is essentially a virus itself, and Time Warner has a reprehensible stance towards its users rights (bandwidth throttling, unethical and intrusive pro-copyright stance).

I am still happy to see that my current employer and my last two employers are on this list.

It is reality!

What is funny is you rant in many posts like a fanboy and call others fanboys.

I did not say AMD should be on a list either. Reality is very few big companies should be. They have the money to sweep things under the rug.

I accept the findings for what they are nothing more. The fact that AMD did not make the list kind of makes me wonder though. I am not saying any thing good or bad here. Intel is not as EVIL as you may think. Both have had there share of court battles, Microsoft is not EVIL it is just the fact that they have the best OS so every one uses there stuff. No wonder people get all pissed off here! You need to stop and think for once! Just because Intel made the list all you come out against it and start YOUR RANTING about how Intel is BAD and this has to be a joke or they paid to be on the list. Always trying to take away from one to boost the other. Then you come on and call me out? FOR WHAT? Because I pointed out AMD was not on the list and that Intel was not as EVIL as you AMD fanboys make it seem? Get a life!

Why are you even discussing AMD and/or it's "fanboys" Give it up and quit trolling. I'm getting rather fed up with the off topic and snide remarks. Stay on topic or find a different thread with a different topic

Production of almost any part of an electronic circuit is harsh. It has a large potential for environmental and health hazards. Reality is cpu production, memory chip production, and so on is toxic. I don't trust any of the companies producing them to be responsible. The fact they produce chips in countries with low standards in those areas speaks volumes. AMD, Intel, all of them I am sure have some bad practices.

I too would like to know what the criteria for this rating was.

Aye, this be true. But given what life in a big chunk of Asia is like it's not so strange. It runs deeper than companies.
