Damn man... hope you get better! My first uncle was just diagnosed with cancer.

I had my first Chemo treatment last Monday. It went well and I felt good.
Next day was like someone let all the air out of a ballon and I slept all day.
Didn't get sick, but I got Nueropathy (cold sensitivity) from the drugs so I have to drink warm beer. Warm beer is better than no beer.

As the week progressed I felt better and got the wild urge to ban someone on TPU. Luckily for them I fell asleep on the keyboard before hitting the ban button.

Rock on, my friends, and know that it's going to take more than having half my guts chopped out and a little cancer to kill my insane sense of humor.

:
Glad to hear your chemo went well, do you have cold sensitivity on your teeth? ask your doctor if it would be OK to use a desensitizing toothpaste, or even a mouthwash with a little lidocaine in it, it might help reduce the sensitivity in your mouth, but it might also numb your ability to taste a bit... Let your doctor know how you feel, a dentist might be able to help you with that too

I really hope you get better soon, and you're able to enjoy a cold beer If not try lukewarm beer from a microbrewery, if you can, it will taste better than lukewarm regular beer

Here's to a fast recovery mate

Okay, update time.
The week after 1st chemo treatment I was completely wiped out. Could barely get out of bed.
Mentally good, physically exhausted. It was like someone strapped cement blocks to my arms and legs. I was at home the whole week as it took everything I had just to walk to the kitchen and back, but I was able to keep busy just sitting at the computer and modding and participating on TPU. It got so bad for awhile I was forced to grab an armful of beers at a time so I would not have to walk to get each one.

Had second treatment last Monday. Not as tired this time (yay), but the other side effects are more pronounced. Not as bad as I have a small pharmacy on my nightstand to manage those. The exhaustion is by far the worst as there is nothing you can do about it except rest and wait until it passes. The neuropathy (fingers tingling and numbness) is kind of cool because I can stick my hand out the door and tell the temperature without looking at a thermometer. lol

My wife bought me a pair of pinwheels so if they have to push me around in a wheelchair I can yell, "Wee wee wee weeeeee" like the Geico pig commercials. Unfortunately the nurses are all on to me and don't fall for my shenanagins anymore.

My Oncologist is as nuts as me, so when we are together the nurses kind of scatter. rofl
He made a rap video about getting screened for colon cancer.

Two down, ten to go ... never give up ... never look back.

Well ... I don't expect to see him on American Idol or anything, but I think he holds the world record for number of rap videos made by a gastro-intestinal (GI) cancer specialist oncologist.

Went for 3rd treatment yesterday. They added more IV (calcium and magnesium) stuff to help combat the chronic effects of the oxaliplatin (nerve damage, tingling fingers) so it added another 2 hours or so to the treatments. I left home at 6am and got back at 6:30pm so it was a looong day, so I'm wiped out today.

Upside was I met a few new nurses and successfully had them laughing the whole time they were in my room assisting (sometimes it's like shooting fish in a barrel). The main chemo nurse I had is totally on to all my shennanigans. Turns out she has a father, brother and husband you are just like me when it comes to pulling crap, so she's battle hardened. lol
She has a great sense of humor and gives me crap back as fast as I can feed it out, so we both laugh a lot when she's my nurse ... so all was well and even though it was a long day it was quite enjoyable.

I met a new guy who just started the exact same treatment and schedule as me (different cancer, though) so I chatted with him for awhile to make him smile, easy his anxiety about chemo, and gave him a few tips to make his life a little easier. He said he was looking forward to catching up every couple of weeks, so that went well too !! I'll give him my cell number next time and tell him to call if he ever wants to chat with someone else going through this.

If anyone wants a little light reading, heres a study on the type of cancer I have.

9 More to go !!! I'm 25% done !! WOOO HOOOO ... never give up ... never look back !!

It does me good to talk about it, so thanks for reading.

You have to remember that these are the nurses that are administering chemical to me that are so toxic they have to wear protective clothing when skewering the bags before hanging them on the IV rack. If they found out I posted their pictures on the internet I could be in a very compromised position.
Many of them are very pleasant to look at.

Forgot to mention that when I got home the local telco coop had plowed fiber optic cable up the the house !!! It's not hooked up but I should have good internet in about a month or so. YAY.
