B/S/T Bumping Oh my!

Just as a regular user of techpowerup, I find this a bit annoying:

There seems to be some members here who do their "rounds" and bump many threads at the same time and it clogs up the latest posts feature on the forum. I'm not one to complain, but it's been getting worse lately. Anyone else have a problem with this? Please vote.

Yes, others do it as well. I'm not condemning anyone in particular or otherwise. Just trying to get a feel for what everyone thinks.

I think it's borderline spam-ish. I understand having buddies and wanting to help out their threads, but I try to spread my ttt's out.

To be fair, I get more annoyed by people who offer a "bump" within an hour of someone else in the same thread.

I find the people bumping threads for the sake of bumping annoying as hell.
If you add/change/sell/buy something that's one thing but non thread owners bumping to draw attention to the thread really annoys me.
Should just change it so they don't show in latest threads or on the front page and only bump in there respective sub forum

Two or three? Sure, no problem.

20 bumped threads?

Uh, there are rules for B/S/T stating you shouldn't bump an excessive number of threads, and yeah, that's excessive to me.

And oh, look, yet another bumped since. Yeah, you bet it's excessive. Why limit the number of bumps the OP can make, but not other users? Leaves a loophole that's gonna get exploited.

That is excessive, new rule: 2 "friendly bumps" per 24 hours? How would that get regulated? I know I myself do it if Im checking for new items in a particular sellers thread and noticed it's been at minimum 12 hours. Unless it's something I am interested in, may give that person a bump because if I'm interested others would be too.

How about one bump by seller only every 12 hours (two per day).
Others can only post valid questions on the sale.

Maybe quasi-lock the BST threads so only the thread originator can post in them. Any questions about items being sold can be handled in PMs.

Just put a thread about this as a sticky in the BST for a week or so. Explain in it that 'mass bumping' is prohibited and will incur infractions if the behavior continues.

From what I see there are less than a handful of members who are doing it, and to change the rules that have been in place for so long to correct a relatively isolated problem is ridiculous.

Not gonna give names but yea, we know who everyone is talkin about lol. I just try to help others out. I don't get around to bumpin fellow tpu'ers threads every day. I try to bump maybe 1-2 times a wk. I didn't think about it taken up new post thread on main page (my bad). I'll keep it down to a min. If anything, someone could have just suggested that to me instead of a whole thread dedicated to it. I'm not tryin to feed the fire to start a whole blast war on here either.

Wait wait. This seems off. We're trying curtail excessive friendliness? That can't be right... since when are people so generous? I know! How about removing the thanks button from BST?

No one was singling you out popswala. This has been in discussion for some time now.
We want it to be fair to the sellers and members, but at the same time prevent massive FS bumps.
That's why Erocker asked for input from the community.

I agree but I don't think a threat of infraction is necessary... A sticky explaining that it is a distraction to the forum front page and requesting members not to mass bump the B/S/T threads should be more than enough.

Nah, it's just not you, as mentioned. But at times there are so many that the entire "New Posts" listing, which is 30 threads, that listing shows 20+ FS threads, too.

With stickies, the first page is now all the threads you bumped. My own WTB thread, which I do not bump often, is now three pages deep. Thanks.

Not that I'm angry or anything, because clearly I'd just bump my own thread more often is that was an real issue for me, but with the others combined, I now see the same 25 or so FS threads 5-6 times a day, if not more, and THAT is where it gets annoying.

The easist fix, for me personally, would be a way for me to not even see the FS section at all in the new post listings. I'm here to do my reviews, and answer people's questions, not buy and sell stuff, so trawlling through all those FS threads can be a pain at times, when I'm looking for actual threads.

I think I must be the only TPU'er in existence who doesn't use the "Latest Posts" part of the site. I look at each section and look at each thread that interests me. All this time I never noticed a thing.

think i've probably only bumped one b/s/t thread and that was for a new guy that was fairly local to me (about 40m away)
why not try to restrict it to one Guest bump only per thread (total) + usual bump rule for original poster
there are several b/s/t threads that get bumped regular by the seemingly same members far to often (are they paid per bump ? )

so as with others YES this does seem to be a problem/anoyance

Thanks for bringing this up, it's kind of annoying seeing 6 FS threads getting bumped by 1 person.

Ha, this is why TPU is so much better than this one another site I visit, where those mods participate in similar "bump rounds" themselves and condemn anyone for speaking out on the matter. It's not so much a problem here as it is on other forums because of the 24 hour time limit between bumps, but it's still unfair. If Person A bumps for 5 people, those 5 people might return bumps to person A, starting a neverending cycle of bump trading to circumvent the bump rule. Do I see it as a major problem now as it is on said other forum? No. Can it quickly spiral into a controversial issue? Absolutely.
