AM3 cooler...quiet and cheap.
I need a decent cheap/quiet AM3 cpu cooler for my wife's office computer. It doesn't have to be a high end cooler, just slightly better than stock, with an emphasis on quiet and installation using the stock bracket.

Well I know you don't want a big cooler but there is a nice used Corsair A70 for 20$ shipped over at hard forums.

It uses the metal bracket under the MB all you do is remove the plastic retention piece and the 4 screws. The Metal bracket must be threaded all the way through.
I had to remove my psu and it took me like 10mins for the G950 Cooler. READ THE REVIEW HERE |

FYI, socket 939 and AM2(+) compatible coolers fit as well.

See with my installation my MB had the right BACKPLATE for the job so I just removed the plastic part of it and put together the new HSF and it is installed with 4 thimb screws. If you would like, I can send you MY AMD backplate that will make this process EASY.
I have the G950 installed right now set up as a passive HS with the metal AMD BP. My X2 240 is downclocked/undervolted to 2460MHz @ 1.13v. Folding it never reaches 40c with a-92mm exhaust fan. Both my ASUS and GIGABYTE do have the right BP, while the ASRock and ECS do not have the right one. YMMV I'll hook you up either way. |

Paul, just to clear my end up. I have a few silent coolers, but they are either large, or not cheap.

With all due respect, for that type of quiet, you get a quiet HSF and do whatever it takes to install it. Are you sure it's the HSF that is speeding up? Could be a case fan or PSU. Maybe you need a quiet case?
