Cisco Introduces New Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers

Cisco today unveiled a new line of Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers with app enabled capabilities for consumers to power and enjoy their connected homes of today and tomorrow. The three new Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers offer exceptional wireless performance and maximum throughput, as well as support for Cisco Connect Cloud, the next generation of Cisco Connect software, which provides simple anytime, anywhere management of multiple home networks. Cisco also announced it is working with top device manufacturers to simplify their networked products, (such as TVs, entertainment devices and home appliances) enabling new consumer experiences in the future.

Today's connected consumer has high expectations for reliability, simplicity, and software and apps that grow with them over time," said Brett Wingo, vice president and general manager, Cisco Home Networking. The new Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers (the EA Series: EA4500, EA3500 and EA2700) deliver the latest home Wi-Fi technology and offer a range of prices and performance for active online homes -- easily handling everything from streaming HD video and multiplayer gaming to downloading large files, adding storage or printers, and connecting multiple devices. These advanced wireless capabilities are timely considering that globally there will be 15 billion networked devices in 2015, up from 7 billion in 2010.* Home networks will need to support an increasing number of devices added to the home, the bandwidth required to run all the devices, and the ability to easily and more securely add and manage these devices.

Partners See Home Network Opportunity

The Linksys EA Series is now available at major retailers including Amazon.com, Best Buy, New Egg, Target and Walmart, as well as the Linksys online store.
The new Cisco Connect Cloud Web-based software is planned for availability worldwide at no additional cost in June. New apps and partner solutions that take advantage of the Cisco home network platform are also planned for availability in June, with details to be announced at that time.

I have the Linksys E4200 and i think it's superb. Stock firmware was rock solid stable and with DD-WRT i get new levels of configuration and flexibility. Only thing that i miss with this router is wall mounting option. I mean, they make a flat design without any antennas and then they froget about wall mounting. But other than that, great device.

Not sure what were the differences between E4200 v1 and v2, but only thing that separates E4200 from EA4500 is a bit different antenna system that makes the first one 300+450Mbps and 450+450Mbps for the EA4500. Judging by official specifications. So if you already own E4200, there is no need to change for EA4500 really. If you're looking for a router from scratch, it would be smart to think about EA4500 if the pricing is good.

More to it than that. the original E4200 used a broadcom cpu and chipsetrunning at 600mhz,which gave it compatibility with ddwrt. V2 uses a Marvell cpu and chipset running @ 1.2Ghz. the v2 is the one that is identical to the new EA4500 not the v1 hence why the E4200v2 is getting a firmware update for app support and cloud ability

I didn't particularly like the looks of WRT54GL so i stuffed it under my desk. The E4200 is placed on top of the desk. And looks pretty nice. Soft touch plastic, nice design. The netgear brick you posted is awful and it hurts my eyes. It's something i'd place in a warehouse, not my home...

lol, actually you fix it to the wall out of sight if need be as they have the screw fixings Or used to at least. And that one i posted is not like the ones i am on about as that looks like plastic as their older stuff used to be metal.

But like everyone else just plastic junk not the nice metal stuff ( this just a switch though ) but can fix to the wall out of sight if needed.

sorry for the newby question, but when I saw this thread, I had to join and ask....

I actually like the linksys stuff and have used them quite a few times. However, I'm also one of those "gotta have the best one" regarding the technology, when it comes to my own home and my office. I want to replace my WRT610 at home within the next month and in the last week I have started again to look into/research the best wireless router.

I see by the first post in this thread (APR 2012) that the EA4500, EA3500 and were just released but none of them make any mention of AC1300 ??

So my question is: Has anyone here heard any info on when Linksys might be releasing a wireless router with AC1300 technology? (I see a company named trendnet has already released info on theirs.)
