ASUS Unveils the VG23AH 3D IPS Monitor

ASUS today launches the VG23AH 3D IPS LED Monitor. Designed to be a well-rounded and customized display for entertainment and gaming, the VG23AH features the ASUS All-in 3D technology, providing users with the smart choice when it comes to the ultimate 2D and 3D multimedia.

The VG23AH immerses users in a cinematic 3D home theater experience with crisp, clear visuals accompanied by audio from its built-in 3 W stereo speakers. With a wide-view angle IPS display, 80,000,000:1 ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio, and ASUS-exclusive Splendid Video Intelligence Technology, the VG23AH delivers a colorful visual experience in Full HD 1080p. It features a host of connectivity options that allows for greater compatibility with an array of media devices by way of dual HDMI 1.4 ports, single-link DVI, and D-sub input options. It has been ergonomically designed with the user in mind, with swivel, tilt and height adjustment capabilities; along with battery-free 3D glasses for a comfortable viewing experience.





Stereoscopic 3D immersion

The VG23AH features Film-type Patterned Retarder (FPR) 3D technology that transports users into an immersive 3D virtual world. The technology used in FPR 3D monitors separate the 3D images that are delivered to the left and right eye simultaneously to deliver flicker-free 3D visuals that are easy on viewers' eyes.

The VG23AH does away with complicated system setups thanks to ASUS All-in 3D technology, so even users lacking in the technical knowhow can easily access this 3D world via an exclusive hotkey, which allows users to convert any 2D to 3D content easily. Despite this, there is no compromise in performance; with the VG23AH providing crisp and smooth 2D and 3D visuals. This visual feast is complemented by built-in 3 W stereo speakers that provide an aural experience to savor.

Vivid color performance and visual experience

The VG23AH brings users into a spectacular colorful world in Full HD 1080p and its IPS panel provides a 178° wide-view angle on both vertical and horizontal planes, with minimal color shift.

ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio provides lifelike images with an 80,000,000:1 contrast ratio, giving users the darkest of blacks and the brightest of whites; while Splendid Video Intelligence Technology optimizes video performance and image fidelity by enhancing color, brightness, contrast, and sharpness. Six preset video modes (Scenery, Theater, Game, Night View, sRGB and Standard) can be selected via a hotkey.

Extensive connectivity options

The VG23AH features a smart design with dual HDMI 1.4 output ports. These twin ports provide 3D Blu-ray support, and allows for greater flexibility with the display being concurrently connected to both a game console and Blu-ray disc player and can be easily switched on/off when in use. In addition, it offers extra connectivity options by way of single-link DVI and D-sub ports.

User-friendly design

The VG23AH has been ergonomically designed to ensure that users always find a comfortable viewing position thanks to its swivel, tilt, and height adjustable stand.

It also comes with lightweight, battery-free 3D glasses. These FPR 3D glasses are flicker-free as the two lenses receive the images for the left and right eye from the display simultaneously. These glasses feature an ASUS-exclusive design, and do not contain any electrical components, with the user not needing to worry about charging the battery. These 3D glasses ensure a comfortable fit for the user. The VG23AH comes with a pair of 3D glasses, along with additional 3D clip-on glasses.

It's just a 60 Hz IPS with passive 3D support. The only hope for 120 Hz with good image quality is the presumed 120 Hz MVA panels AUO is supposed to manufacture, yet there's no evidence of any monitors coming with said panels.

Supposedly someone hit 120hz with one of those 1440p korean IPS monitors using a 680 and the discontinued board. That makes me think it's not really the panel tech that's keeping IPS from hitting 120hz, just lack of demand.

I wouldent say lack of demand, id say that they want to drive the cost higher, or use it as a "Hey, you can now get 120hz and IPS!", after people are fed up with getting 60hz 3d monitors.

Supposedly someone managed 133Hz.

The thing is, if you do the calculations, most IPS panels should have no trouble doing 85Hz and be quite awesome for gaming. Unfortunately, instead of trying that manufacturers keep adding image scallers, 4 different inputs, speakers and other useless stuff. BenQ, Acer, Dell, anyone should really just try and make a 2560x1440 screen with just a basic OSD and DisplayPort. 100Hz by default, $600, will become the new official gaming screen in NA in no time...
