There was reason Asus dropped "thermal armor" on previous models (after original Sabertooth).
That was heat.... It actually makes mobo run hotter.

Now this model is funny... Little fan to fix the heat problem :/
I wouldn't want that.

Now if Asus comes up with idea to actually seal part of mobo area under 'armor' that actually touches all components, conducts heat, and really blocks dust - it would be a winner.

I would like it better if it didn't require an additional 2 fans to keep cool, but that cover is effectively more of an insulator than heatsink from the looks of it.

The company I work for builds rugged military computers, our stuff is required to work 24x7 in the desert while being passively cooled with no fans or vents. It is interesting that this dual fan design is inspired by military design.

It looks different, and it is all about marketing, so kudos to ASUS for coming up with another different product than every other motherboard with similar features.

I think this makes it more exciting, most boards just show you all their bits from the start, this one makes you work for it

This thing looks horrible A decline in the nice looking design of the Sabertooth line (50mm fans?, noise ahoy!, also it looks like a damn skate part with all the up and down slopes)

Whether you like the look of the Sabertooth Armor or hate it, I don’t see how it makes much of a difference since it is removable. I think of it like a racing stripe. No it wont make it go faster but if you like the look of it what’s the harm? If you don’t like it get your screwdriver and let the board go comando style,……

Personally I like the ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe.

I think the X79 Sabertooth didn’t have any Armor because the board got too hot and maybe had a more complex layout.

It does seem like a bit of a gimmick IMO but as long as ASUS stands by their warranty and the board performs then,……meh.

Will this Thunderbolt header enable a display that uses Mini-DP or is it strictly Thunderbolt?

That's a good question.

I don't know if you need the Thunderbolt controller card to make use of the "TB_Header" in the way you suggest.

Wow what a design, perhaps I should go cover my car in saran wrap to protect against rust!

i dont like the full cover, although it may help the board little bit cooler coz in long term when you install the board in the case you gonna have dust behind the cover and it would be hard to release the cover when you have big cooler, dual graphic card ect
but i like the slot covers

Adding fans to counter the insulation. Talk about a good design.

It does look fairly good, and i can see some people painting the cover to good effect, but i would not buy this myself.

The cover WILL get clogged with dust, and i wouldnt want to have to completely strip the pc down and remove everything from the board to get it off and clean it.
Plus, i HATE 40mm fans, even if they are silent to begin with, they nearly always end up noisy within a few months.
