Can't they simply begin a Kickstarter funding marathon ala Double Fine? I'm sure that thousands of Stalker fans would be all over it and a sequel can then be made.

... eh? from what I understand, They didnt run out of money. There was a squabble between their boss (the owner of the IP rights to STALKER title), the development team (who wanted "more" but werent getting it), and the "investor" (who wanted even more but wasnt getting it). Parties with 3 people often end in tears.

This sucks hard. I'll admit, I've never played through any of them all the way but I do like the games. Just not enough action for me.

I really wanted to get into it but was never able to. If I had some free time on my hands, which I never do seem to, I feel like I would have a blast with the game.

IMO STALKER is the better game despite it's graphics inferiority to Metro (which isn't to say they suck at all, just not as good). STALKER is a free open world to the confines of your map. You can pick up side missions galore, or you can continue with the main quest. The only reason I liked Metro is because the story had some substance to it, and the linearity actually made it flow better together.
When I first played SoC, I was floored with the graphics TBH. At that time, Crysis was king in graphics and STALKER was the ONLY comparable game in reference to that. So, to me, its still sweet-looking
I still have to get Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat

There's a rumor that Bethesda has bought the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise? Perhaps that's why the original team has to stop developing the game further? I really don't know myself. It's rumor after all.

As for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games, I have only played the first one, and I quite liked it, since it played/felt similar to the other game I like, the Gothic series, but with guns instead of swords. I really like the atmosphere of the game with Russian voice-overs which certainly helps, well, it worked for me.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. sells too well and is too valuable for it to die a dodo's death. I'd believe the rumors of Bethesda buying the property. It isn't all that different from Fallout 3 design-wise and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. could benefit from Bethesda's open-world Creation Engine.

I've played all the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games and I do enjoy them (when it isn't making me hide in fear). XD

Don't know that I believe the rumors (too many out there to do that ), but I do wish that someone would. I really enjoyed all three, esp after loading the Complete mods.

No, please, no Creation Engine, X-Ray with all its bugs still is better for shooters.

X-ray engine is way way more advanced for a "rusty" feeling of Ex-soviet union stuff..
Crysis graphics is too cartonish and colorfull...Is good for mario or rayman but not for Stalker
Also Falout 3 graphics is better for SF games with spaceships and stuff because every corner of Falout graphics feels like UT graphics...Plenty of metal feeling on faces, grass and stuff..
I felt SoC graphics was the best of all three..Not too much HDR and suficiently making the game feel dark even in deep sunlight...
Btw i am from Romania and i felt at home when played Stalker games...I felt part of my world but in 1983..

What is this "Complete" mod you speak of?
Does it work for SoC?

Thats a kick in the groin. I actually enjoy playing there games. I have all three and played them all a couple times, even if it was just running around killing things or trying to find all the artifacts. I enjoyed the visuals, game play and all that you can do in them. Its sad to hear there will be no more. They will be missed.
