two wrongs don't make a right. people should take responsibility for their actions. it is a sad state to see all of these great people on TPU advocating lieing to avoid personal responsibility.

Can't say I haven't been guilty of it in the past, and there's no denying that for every RMA/support horror story posted on a forum pertaining to individual experience with a company, there are 10 people actively trying to pull one over on that very same company for user error, but sometimes a little guys gotta go what a little guys gotta do.

well im not perfect either but when it comes to out right lieing to avoid personal responsibility i have to draw the line. the adult thing to do is to replace it yourself knowing that accidents happen. if everyone lied in this way regarding RMAs then the entire process would become entirely too expensive for companies and they would have to raise the price of their boards, chips, etc just to stay profitable.

Outright lying to avoid personal responsibility you say? Isn't that what America was founded upon? And isn't that the norm today?

Well... Ive lied to get an RMA 1 or 2 times after i f**ked something up out of personal negligence but I dont make a habit of doing it.

I suggest you clean it up and try for an RMA -

you can even contact AsRock and be honest and upfront about it and maybe they might RMA for free or charge you a small fee in which case tell your mate to cough up the cash to pay for the repairs (or a new board if AsRock refuse) as he's the one that spilt beer over it anyway.

and if he doesnt pay up then rattle his cage a little by either shooting his dog or giving the paintwork on his car a more stylish look.

I dont recommend doing the malicious activities above as the guy is a friend but he has realize that it was his fault and shoulder the blame.

offering to pay for damages is the least a 'friend' can do, after all. he is the one that broke it

(I know i can be very protective about my PC and its not always a healthy obsession, but if you put a lotta money and man hours building and tweaking it then you'd be damned if youre gonna let anyone near it, let alone press the spacebar on your keyboard even when the PC is powered off - you gotta protect your investment)

It would be one hell of a coincidence that the board's failure was independent of the beer being poured in it.
I have found that the second you mention alcohol the technical support personnel consider you an idiot. Thus, don't say beer.

I never suggested that you should not say something was spilled. Saying "There was something spilled on the board. I would like to get an RMA number so the board can be repaired." is still an option.

Perhaps I did not make it clear, but an RMA isn't just for defective boards. It also covers repairs and other damages the end user might experience.

lol soak the whole PCI area in rubbing alcohol.. A least it won't smell like beer.
Think it might fix it? XD

PS: If your friend backs his car up into yours, he's still liable for damages. Just because your a friend, doesn't mean you should have to pay for his mistakes.

I have to agree.
But with a small disclaimer. I have personally been lied to by a hardware manufacturer, who said my pins were messed up. They tried to refuse my RMA. But little did they know, I had taken a picture of the pins, as I always do, just in case that happens, with date and time stamps, just before I shipped it out and after the RMA was issued.. After showing this to them, they decide to "recheck" my board and verified the pins were fine. They then gave me my RMA.. I was very aggravated, because this was the second mobo I had an issue with. The first one I actually had broken the pins on and I told them that in good faith and honesty. The second one, I did not, but they tried to act like I did, because they knew I had before.
That is shady..

After a lot of thought of the matter, I've decided to just buy a new motherboard outright and get my mate to pay the cost of the new one.

The thing that has turned me off the RMA process is the fact of how much time it is going to take, I just cant stand the thought of having 2 weeks away from my precious games :P guess I'm a true addict

Thanks for all your input and suggestions so far.

One more question guys, whats the best way to clean a radiator? Basically most of the beer got caught up in the radiator mesh and it now it stinks horribly, Would be be okay to soak it in some sort of alcohol or even wash it with warm water?

I'm just not sure how the radiator will react to any of these substances or damage the coating on the radiator.

Thanks again!

yeah just buy a new board ^_^, then try fixing it that mobo to whatever you can so long as it works even with on board graphics, then sell it so someone else who is willing to buy it.

Ask your "mate", if he really is your "mate", to shoulder damages, costs, cleaning, repairs, replacement, etc. If he says no, then he's just your "mate" in good times and not the bad times.

Water, the pure kind, does not conduct electricity. This is why you see people recommend cleaning electronics with distilled water. The problem is the part of beer that isn't water. Electrolytes (anything that breaks up in water to form positive and negative ions) are what allow water to conduct electricity. Beer has enough electrolyte to conduct electricity, at least enough to damage sensitive electronics.

For those who cannot read previous posts:

THE OP's FRIEND IS WILLING TO PAY FOR DAMAGES! To those who suggest this, perhaps you can read the other posts before condemning the OP? Additionally, RMAs aren't only for DOA goods. They can be utilized for repairs to goods, just as long as the person applying for an RMA has made the damage terms clear.

Finally, booze and computers don't mix. Telling people that you spilled beer on the product, assuming you did so accidentally, starts the conversation out on the wrong foot. This is why you need to be honest with technical support (I spilled some liquid), but not 100% accurate (the liquid was pop/soda) when describing the situation. Knowing what type of damage is necessary, but knowing the exact nature of why isn't a necessity.

im in the states, but when i had to rma my asrock board it took 7 days from the day i sent the email to tech support. i had to pay to ship it to them, but they paid to ship it back to me. personally i feel a 7 day turn around is exellent, how ever living in the states it was all handled in california, so my shipping time and cost was much less. the new board from them has behaved perfectly since then, and was a new board that was a later addition of my model. this was the board from my media computer, so i didnt have to go through gaming withdrawl. try weed instead of beer next party, spill that in the computer and you just have to blow it out with compressed air! good luck and have a great day.
