Tested the GTX 670 at my work...

So me and the tech's at my work decided to test out the GTX 670's that we had received through new shipment of product this morning.

I am VERY disappointed at AMD. Truly. Having spent $680 for my Asus HD7970.

We tested a reference MSI GTX 670 against a Sapphire HD7970 reference.

The GTX 670 beats the HD7970, either equal in FPS or 10+ or more in most of the games we tested.

- Battlefield 3
- StarCraft II
- Shogun 2
- Skyrim

I'm pretty sure they tested more. Didn't stay around long enough to see the others.

The GTX 670 is lighter, smaller, and produces less heat and consumes much less energy; not to mention you can still 4-way SLI.

It retails for $420.

P.S. The GTX 670 destroys the HD7950 (for lesser price tag!)

Considering the 7970 was available months ago, currently tests within 5%of 680 performance according to reviews, overclocks to higher performance than 680's and now costs less it is more of a shame on Nvidia.

Its hard to believe since you don't have pictures and screenshots of proof, but it then again according to benchmarks from tweaktown the GTX670 looks nuts! I dont see it winning by 20FPS or more though. Not even the 680 is pullin that.

Sorry, there's no way I can get screen shots. I was just watching as they did the tests.

I may have exaggerated the FPS difference, but the GTX 670 most definitely did beat the HD7970 (either equal or by at least 10 frames) from what I saw.

When the Asus DCUII first came out, it retailed for $630 (and with tax came out to, around $710).

I payed $680 after a discount!

EDIT: In the end, the GTX 670 beats the HD7970 (irrelevant to how big or small the advantage is), for $200 less. Not to mention lighter, smaller, less heat, and less power consumption.

Ive been reading leaked benches online that it is... if so then kepler has a massive bottleneck somewhere.

And people have been trying to figure out how thats even technically possible. Its looking like it though. Time to start saving for an upgrade.

From my readings is that the GTX 680 and 670 have an internal throttling down when temps reach a certain # or when the bios tells the fan its suppose to be at 80%. <-- Thats seams where everyones reporting hitting the ceiling.

The 670s that are on the 680 pcbs are doing better due to the missing array and the improved cooling and are able to be cooled more due to the missing array and improved cooler. Some owners with Liquid cooled 680s are achiving same OC as the 670 OC cards have. People are still try'n to figure out the bios

Nvidia just seams more restrictive with Kepler.

I don't about 'restrictive'.
It's just that you really need good cooling to squeeze the performance out of these Kepler GPUs, to keep them from throttling themselves against your hopes and dreams.

i got the hd7970 on launch date and it was 549... where did you get ripped off

the hd7970 is now 479.....

Look at the performance of the green team and think it over

Amd fell mildly with there new gpu's IN A SENCE and thus is why there price is dropping

The performance cycle is starting over like the 8800GT vs the 3870.

Green team have the crown for the next few years and then it's Amd's turn.

But that's the way I look at it.

You forget the fact that the 680 can easily be OCd by around 15~20%, making it a much faster card than the 670, both cards are awesome, so no shame here really

The 7970 can be OCd insanely too, and is an awesome card as well, trading punches with the 680, but the fact that it was released at such high price for its overall relative performance, allowed Nvidia to price their mid range cards as high end parts, and now both early adopters of the 7970, and the 680 had to literarily pay the price for that, so you could say that users from the red camp and the green camp got bit in the ass this generation

ahh you got the awesome looking one.... i think its cheaper to buy referance stock because its the cheapest... then flash the extreme unlocked bios and buy a water cooling kit

edit: the extreme hd7970 bios lets you go up to 2000/2500MHz in CCC
