Yeah but this grass is only a tad less green and 100 bucks less.

Anyhow, never regret buying stuff. Like folk keep saying - you can overclock the 680 higher than a 670 - it's still the faster card.

And it doesn't look like your dog ate half the PCB, you know the bit where the compute part is meant to be.

$100 is $100 that is 1/5 the price of the 680 people are saving for 7% lower perf on the 670. Wow that is amazing performance, but in any industry this is considered misleading your consumer base. I'm not unhappy with my purchase, hell I wouldn't give the card back to them if they gave me a full refund. However happy I am with their product doesn't change the fact that I did write NV and Gigabyte to tell them how disappointed I was with their decision to fix pricing of the 680 when they knew the 670 was going to be released for $100 less in under 60 days. For shame NV for not just making the 670 your standard, for shame distributor (Gigabyte and everyone else) for allowing this kind of thing to happen to their customers.

I just read the following on Legit Reviews, regarding GK104. It is rumour but makes an awful lot of sense.

Quote:
That said it will be interesting to see what NVIDIA plans on doing with the GK110 GPU and we have a feeling we might find out next week during GPU Technology Conference. There have been rumors that NVIDIA will be releasing a GK110 powered GeForce GTX 685 and that they company will slowly phase out the GeForce GTX 680. Last month we would have thought that idea was crazy, but looking at how close the GTX 670 and GTX 680 are in terms of performance it could be plausible. It's always fun to speculate, but we will find out the real story soon.

At the end of the day the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 is a great graphics card that is going to bring a world of hurt to AMD. NVIDIA has been unable to keep the GeForce GTX 680 in-stock due to a variety of issues, so it will be interesting to see how well they can do with the GeForce GTX 670. Historically, the lower skus are usually easier to make as they use fallout from higher skus. Since the GTX 670 uses a trimmed down GTX 680 core with some features fused off it should be readily available.
They also said there is a rumour (no proof but word is out there) that the 680's sent to reviewers were cherry picked (most are from both camps?) to specifically be cooler and clock higher. Could well be the 680's aren't quite up to scratch, therefore the 670 picks up the pieces (and does so very well).

It's like 15% difference in performance between those two, the GTX670 and 680 is more like 7%, which in most scenarios might as well be in the error margin. 15% is not a lot to justify the price increase imo, but 7% is a fair bit too close imo. I get yer point of course (we're all different and all that) but a €80 price difference is hard to swallow. Especially as there are a lot of 670's out there that are faster than the 680.

Yeah, there's no right answer here, so just get what you're most happy with. I just hate having something that's been intentionally crippled, no matter how slight the difference or cheaper it is. Of course, if the top model is outrageously expensive, then I'll wait a while for the prices to come down before getting it.

Mind you, I waited ages for the GTX 580 to drop in price and when it didn't I paid the full £400 for it after trying to feel satisfied with a GTX 560 Ti (no 448 core version then). Oh well, at least I got the insignificantly overclocked version, lol for the same price as a standard one.

I just hate crippled chips, regardless of price/performance or anything else. The few times I've gotten such a card, I felt distinctly unsatisfied, regardless of the logic of buying it over its more expensive brother. It's just the way it is for me and I won't knock anyone who does get such a card and is happy with it, especially if they've gotten great bang for the buck.

The extra RAM doesn't make a 670 quicker. Only if the 2GB card runs out of memory at high resolution will the extra RAM help.
Look at the 7970 lightning review. It pulls ahead of the 680 at max res, no where else. I'd be willing to bet a 4 GB 670/680 would stay ahead, and it's not surprising. I constantly go over 2 GB usage on 1080p.

Yes, you've just agreed with me. The card isn't faster per se, it just avoids getting bottlenecked from running out of memory.

That is what happens when you rush a product. Whoops. That's okay, plenty of people bought the 680 so I'm sure nVidia doesn't care too much. Honestly, nVidia just needs to get cards sold at this point. You know something else is brewing, it's all marketing.

Not to make a personal attack out of this, but are you sure you can take that stance without seeming like you support these kinds of business tactics? A rhetoric to the effect, "it is what it is, and I'm ok with it because it is what it is," sounds really accepting. I know companies are a lot like soulless money grabbers, but the people who plainly state that an action of theirs is poor practice toward the customer without any sarcasm will be heard. No customer, current or potential, will benefit by being complacent about poor practice.

How you word it doesn't matter, the fact is getting a 4 GB 670 can get you better performance than a 680 for less. It may only be memory limited situations, but between mods and these cheap 1440p displays that happens a good bit.

To put this in the perspective of your "crippled" gpu complaint, there was never a 260/470/570 released that could match their full blown sibling. With this 670 there's multiple units at launch that match or exceed the performance of a 680. This is unlike any prior situation. My point is you're not going to have that kind of buyers remorse with a 670. Even more so if you buy a 4 GB.

And a 4GB GTX 680 will beat a 4GB GTX 670 - you've got to compare like with like. Of course, it would cost a lot more for a much smaller performance gain, so there's a value argument there. Will a 4GB GTX 670 really cost less than a 2GB GTX 680? I dunno, you tell me. I reckon it will all depend on brand, retailer, discounts etc.

The 4gb bit was just icing on the cake, you don't need it for my point to hold true, but for the record the evga 4gb 670 starts at $470, and evga usually marks up more than their competitors for double vram cards.

You don't need it? That was your whole point! Look, the 670 GPU is inherently weaker than the 680 GPU, so if you keep all other things the same such as clock speed, rig, software, driver settings etc the 680 wins every time. The 670 is only potentially better from a value point of view if priced right and at release time, it's obviously priced very right.

I'm not mad at all, why would I be? I've been happily gaming on my 680s since March, the performance is flawless, and I needed to upgrade my 580s in 3-way SLI, as I was starting to experience hiccups at 5760x1080 in 3D in Skyrim after downloading multiple hi-res texture packs for it.

I finally had my last battle in Skyrim in glorious surround 3D two weeks ago (that doesn't mean I don't continue playing) and it was a cinematic experience that I couldn't have fully enjoyed with my previous cards, so I'm as happy as could be with my purchase

The 670 is an excellent card, but the 680 will OC much higher, and it's not like I need it to right now, it runs every single game maxed out in full 3D

I'm sorry you're mad about your purchase, don't be, just be happy for the privilege you had of tasting unparalleled performance form your card sooner than many people, a lot of people would love to be in your place, and couldn't, due to lack of inventory, or many other reasons, I'm just happy more people will enjoy Kepler with a more affordable card, and top notch performance, I just hope the 670 doesn't have the same availability problems as its older brother

I know where you're coming from, I've bought plenty of second best cards. I don't know why you just can't look at this like it is. You're not going to feel bad about a a 1-2% clock for clock difference. This may never happen again, it sure hasn't happened before, but in this case no 670 owner is going to feel like they should have gotten a 680.

I think it's dangerous to blanket all 670 owners with that statement, lol. I for one would feel unsatisfied. So, there you have it, you need just one dissatisfied customer to make that untrue!

An owner of what? I've got a GTX 580, as in my specs.

Lol that's a heck of a lot of speculation.. First week they come out, with infant drivers and you people are creating g rape vines.. XD
LOL phase out the 680 with a 670 = 685? lmao.. Yes and then they will create a dragon to devour all the remaining 670's for their lack of faith..
Come on.. Infant drivers, infant card.. It's gonna shine. I'm not complaining.

Don't.. Thats not feelin bad, that's hatin.. Don't hate..
This is just like 8800gts vs 8800gtx all over again..
The 670 is not going to destroy the 680. Stop trying to hate on it, just because you didn't want to fork out the extra cash for the 680.

Post links where these 670s destroy 680's or it never happened..

Quite Frankly, 100 dollars means squat to me..
Even if I get one more FPS, thats one more sweet, sweet, fps I get to enjoy..

I honestly think a lot of people are just hating in here.. That's cool. I'm going to navigate away from this topic..
Stop pissin on peoples cherrios..
