Diablo 3 Launch Overloads Servers

Shacknews is reporting Diablo III is pretty popular. So popular, in fact, that the servers have been overloaded by the flood of clickmaniacs trying to play when it launched at midnight. As Diablo III requires players be online to play, even by themselves, there are a lot of sullen faces around this morning, staring glumly at 'Error 37' messages. Still, some are able to play. There's a little good D3 news in that Blizzard is helping out Australian fans who pre-ordered from GAME, after the failing retailer said it wouldn't honour their orders but would keep their money.

"Due to high concurrency the login servers are currently at full capacity. This may cause delays in the login process, account pages and web services," a Blizzard representative said of Error 37. "We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience while this is being resolved." A message on the login screen notes, "We're also aware of issues affecting character creation and are working to resolve them at this time." Hang in there, then. As for the land down under, after GAME entered administration earlier this week, it told Diablo III pre-orders that they wouldn't receive their game, but nor could they get a refund. Blizzard kindly stepped in to save them, explaining that those with proof of preordering can buy a digital copy through Battle.net then submit their GAME receipt for a refund. You'll need to buy before May 21, and send your receipt in by June 30, though.

Yeah, this was REALLY unexpected.

Too broke to buy at launch anyways, so I just saved myself a headache.

Kind of like a DDOS attack they created themselves.

Kudos to Blizzard for taking care of the Aussies.

I agree. Seems like they are a studio who cares. I haven't owned a Blizzard game since The Lost Vikings.

Thanks, Blizzard, for selling a half of the game and keeping the other one at your servers.

One makes good games, one makes Genre defining, life changing games. The other is Ubisoft.

a LOT of people are complaining about the always on internet requirement.

As for their servers, they didn't go down they were overloaded. There were people playing it just took a long time to get in. Blizzard fans are used to it from WoW.

So if you install D3 on a laptop and take it with me where i have no internet connection i can`t play the game in singleplayer ?

EDIT:
Quote:
Ubisoft has had far more block-buster titles than Blizzard has in the last 5 years.
And ruined series like Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon or my favorite Splinter Cell

Correct.
That is news to me, so the only reason to buy D3 is for my desktop then. 10x

If your life was changed by a game, I feel sorry for you...

Also, Blizzard hasn't made an original game in decades. They've lived off the success of WoW, releasing expansion pack after expansion pack, and it isn't really that good of a game. Diablo II was their last really good game.

Ubisoft has had far more block-buster titles than Blizzard has in the last 5 years.

They couldn't even get past day one before demonstrating the ludicrousness of a required internet connection for a single player game.

I remember when Blizzard was likeable.

If not for allways on DRM I would buy this. I dislike the item shop and will have nothing to do with it.
I really would like to get it, but unlike so many I do vote with my wallet.

I'm going to give an extra $60 to Grim Dawn instead.

If Blizzard ever do real Wc4 I hope they leave this DRM crap out of it.

with RMAH, they absolutely have to have it as always on. think about the uproar when someone figures out how to hack/bot items and starts making a living off of it. (not saying it won't still happen, but it will be much harder)

not gonna happen. you can't play the game without an authenticated account and key. even if you hack one, you have to be on their servers to play.

So keep it like it is but add a mode that is not "ranked", I just want to play solo and with my friends.
I could care less if you could not trade items in unranked.

Since when is Originality a defining characteristic of success fullness of a video game. I judge a game on whether or not it's fun or not.

Servers overloaded on the first day, you don't say!

Yeah seriously, IT'S OK THAT IT'S NOT WORKING, but post a freaking time when it WILL be working. Fail is fail. mkay. Why can't companies understand that communication is really important to... oh I dunno 99% of us!

You mention the failing retailer like you mentioned who the failing retailer was previously. You did not and it reads funny.
