EVGA Undertakes Mini Recall Of GeForce GTX 670 SC, Owners To Get FTW as Replacements

EVGA is said to have isolated a small batch of GeForce GTX 670 SC (SuperClocked), model# 02G-P3-2672-KR graphics cards, which were not properly screened through Quality Assurance (QA). The company worked with its partners to get these cards re-tested through the QA, which concluded that the GTX 670 SC is a well-designed product. EVGA assured current owners of the part in question, that should they notice issues with their products, they should get in touch with EVGA's Jacob Freeman (jacobf[at]evga[dot]com), who will assist in setting up an RMA. Further, EVGA assured that in such cases, the returned GTX 670 SC will be replaced with a faster GTX 670 FTW Edition.

That QA guy was probably smoking reefers, giggling at how small the PCB was.

I am looking at my GTX 670 SC next to me, I am hoping I have no problems with it. Question does anyone know if the FTW has a back plate and longer PCB? I tried looking on the eVGA website but no pictures of it?(backside) I am planning on water cooling mine and I want the small version PCB version with no back plate..

I believe the FTW uses the 680 PCB. Not sure about the backplate.

I hope not because the whole purpose of me buying the card is for the small PCB and no backplate because I am doing a ITX build that I want to water cool and I am limited on space but with this card being so short I can add more radiators, but a longer PCB I probably can not do it..

Glad they voluntarily did this before the issues arose (or have they already?).

Wonder if anyone is going to try to get a hold of a few of these cards, good or not, and work EVGA for RMA's to (try to) get upgraded cards.

They already arose. All the issues they were getting in the forums probably promted them to re-test if they had already passes QA and were sent out.

Seams they halted shipments and the early countries that got them will get the grunt of the bad batches.

I originally bought an EVGA 670 SC on launch day but cancelled the order. I wonder if I dodged a bullet there? That short pcb didn't look good for me.

I'm sure if you contact eVGA and explain that to them, they will probably have no problem sending you another SC card instead of the FTW. However, it might take a little longer since they are probably using the FTW cards because they have to wait for the next batch of GTX670 with the standard "short" PCB to be ready.

Since the cards seem to work fine right now, I'm guessing it is a component that is prone to failure or doesn't meet spec, or a defect in the PCB that could lead to failure.

Well EVGA is good for upgrading current owners of the chips in question!
That's why I stick with them!
