Basic Method For over clocking 2600k need info

Hey guys

I am very new to pc building in general, i know alot of the general information but im fairly limited when it comes to over clocking, my question is can anyone provide me with a fairly simple overview on how to OC a intel core i7 2600k to around 4.2 ghz stable, i Dont really want to push it and shorten the lifetime of my cpu

I will either be using a
Asus Sabertooth motherboard
ASRock Z77 Extreme6 Motherboard

Thermaltake tough power 775w
Enermax ETD-T60-TB CPU Cooler

or a cooler than you can recommend i have a height limitation of like 155mm for a cooler

Just set the multi. You could probably lower voltage, but you'll have to test for that. The motherboard will take care of the rest.

What did you do for your OC, i want mine running at a fairly decent speed with not much damage, i dont really care about pushing it as far as it can go

Just go into bios and set your multi to 42.

I basically assumed lol, whenever i see others over-clocking their changing loads of settings in their BIOS

It appears so,.. I haven't overclocked any of my Processors yet. Maybe I'll try soon when i decide to buy a decent cooler

yeah, start from multiplier first
dont push it too far, try about 10% first then check the stability
then if you want try to raise little by little
if after you oc it theres something that run not right like fail start just reset your bios

What software could i run to really push the tests and make sure that it wont crash even in the worst circumstances?
