Atelier Wazakura Rolls Out All-Leather Honkawa 2 Keyboard

Japanese accessories maker Atelier Wazakura, unveiled a special PC keyboard for leather-lovers, the Honkawa 2. The keyboard is probably hand-made, as its makers announced they'd ship just 10 pieces each month. While leather decks up its frame, its keys are made almost entirely of it, with markings engraved. The leather appears to be oil-finished. The Honkawa 2 ships with a 103-key QWERTY+Japanese layout. The keys have 19 mm key pitch, with around 3.3 mm key travel, and about 50 g operating force. Measuring 390 x 127 x 21.5 mm (WxDxH), the Honkawa 2 weighs about 600 g. It supports USB interface natively, although a PS/2 adapter is included. Atelier Wazakura is asking 25,200 JPY (US $317.2) for it.

There was a wooden bamboo keyboard, now it's leather one, we already have plastic ones. What's next, concrete and chocolate keyboards?

I've been waiting for so long to cut costs using the same consumables I use for my car for my PC and the other way round.
I certainly can't use antifreeze as cooling liquid for my PC but I will get one of those keyboards to use Leatherique both on my car seats and the keyboard.

Just make a keyboard with replacable keys.
Primarily the WASD keys and spacebar.

I'd prefer bamboo since it can get wet with no ill effects. As for status, gold plated brass would do.

i bet a leather keyboard is very comfortable to type on. of course, it's not like plastic is in any way uncomfortable.. will we see an epidemic of rugburns on fingertips if these become popular?

I used to use AntiFreeze in my water cooling loops back when I ran liquid cooling.

Keys doesnt look uniform in terms of clearance.. It looks like pressing a key would sometimes "scrape" the key adjacent to it. Doesnt look good either. I bet it doesnt feel good (or smell good) if your fingers begin to sweat as well. If I want something that feels good to type on to, Id get a mechanical keyboard.

Yeah sweaty keyboard would be certain.

I've had leather on my hockey pads, so I know how bad it can get. It first gets sweaty, then changes color, then looks real nasty...and finally...well to sum it up 10yrs later I'd still classify them as a biohazard due to the smell.

I'm guessing lots of keys would be missing very quickly...

Btw, has anyone found the chocolate one since we sort of found the keyboard made from concrete (well stone but it's close)?

Leather, even if oil finished it still has pores that would suck up oil from your fingertips? Seems like a bacteria and stain magnet.

I'd like to see new keyboards with some type of silver impregnated into the keys on the original alps blue switches.

I know I'd be a buyer. Silver flakes and keyboard keycaps would be a good combination. Heck my washer/dryer and dishwasher have them why not my sheets, socks and keyboard?

Bamboo is also a pretty decent product if you're into keeping your home clean. I actually think I have a set of bamboo sheets in the linen closet.

Best,

LC
