DIY Self contained water cooling
Do do it yourself self contained watercooling exist. I seen pictures of modded self contained coolers. I am just curious. Searching my google mystic ball didn't bring any results.

I'm not sure what you mean. All custom water cooling loops are self contained. If they weren't all of your components would get wet.

premade components are much better than diy stuff anyways, unless you happen to have very expensive cnc machinery.

I do know regular water cooling is a lot better and is DIY. As I said. Just curious. Since lepa now has their cooling loop thing I just was thinking what other products and diy projects were out there. I have seen the h60 modded to connect to a gpu. |

Funny how when you said DIY I thought you meant making everything from scratch, and here it seems you just meant modding a factory sealed unit vs picking out parts of a piece together loop.
Yeah, the kind you're referring to do exist, but I've seen a few truly custom made ones where they bury copper pipes under ground and run hoses through the house. Now THAT'S DIY. Last edited by Frag Maniac; May 29, 2012 at 04:46 PM. |

That's not really what he meant, though. The TT BigWater was (is?) a low quality WC loop, not a compact loop with the pump/res integrated into the rad and/or block.

Doesn't swiftech also make a rad with res/pump integrated? Is this what you mean james?

Well, that's a kit, but it contains the rad+pump combo in it.

If it was WIY then it would not be self contained correct?

All WCing is self contained. All WCing is custom if it's not a prebuilt AIO. Again, unsure what james is asking.

Not always true. you still need to have additives and to clean your loop out regularly due to build up. The AIO kits are made to install and never deal with again.

TBH I wouldn't want to know what they look like inside after a couple of years

I was wondering if there existed a block+pump. Like the apogee. All the AIO self contained units use these. Thats where I got the self contained units. Not that I am or should, but could make your own much more expensive unit similar to the AIO's. I was just curious if that existed. In my mind I was stuck on self contained units having it, and should of just asked if there was a block+pump combo.
My curiosity has been fed. |

Glycol. Hence the low maintainece needed, as coolers like the H100 and Antec 690 aren't actually "watercoolers"...they are actually "glycolcoolers". I knwo for a fact the Corsair coolers are Propylene Glycol, says so in the manual.
![]() And becuase they use glycol, camparing them to other water loops is kinda silly...unless you plan on filling that lopp with glycol as well! Kinda completely different coolants!

Really. I was just curious. Thank you all for feeding my curiosity. If I had waited just another day I would of seen the tpu article about the apogee II and would not of started this thread. I don't have plans to start water cooling soon. My cpu never goes past 65C, while overclocked, and all the while being silent with my gelid tranquillo. If anything I want a quieter gpu and have been considering an asus 670 top if I had the money for it.
