Zotac 670 4096MB - is it better than Asus 670 2048MB Direct Cu II?

I'm a bit confused. A local seller offered me this card for only €40 more than the Asus 670 Direct CUII. Which sounds like a good deal.

I'm googling it but I can't seem to find any information, or find it for sale from any reputable online seller..

Well, the 4GB doesn't help much to improve fps at your size resolution. Found a couple of reviews for a 4GB 680 but it gives you an idea of the impact of doubling memory (Bugger all).

That zotac gtx 670 is not bad considering it has the same pcb & cooler like gtx 680.

So the only advantage the Asus 670 has is its cooler.
Whereas the Zotac 670 has 4GB vram against the Asus' 2GB.

I'm more undecided which one to get now than I was before I started this thread.

Bp you are a Skyrim player like me and knowing this I strongly recommend you the 4GB version because the other day I ran into a VRAM bottleneck with my 2GB buffer.

I'm going to upgrade soon because of this.

I don't think that 680s waterblocks will fit especially because the memory layout is probably different, anyway you could use an universal GPU block and some heatsinks on the VRM.
Memory doesn't get that hot anyway

Zotac normally sells reference components at a lower price than other brands. And a limited warranty ( not like EVGA for sure )

I've also ordered The Asus GTX670 DCU2T.

Worth every penny.

a 670 is no match for dual 6990's so it's unlikely she'll run into the same bottleneck, also her screen res is a little smaller than yours (2560x1440 vs 2560x1600).

the asus card really is the best 670 to get and the fact that its cheaper seals the deal.

if you go ASUS, get the TOP version

If you like mods etc, the 4GB is def great, plus it's great for eyefinity etc. But the ASUS will def have great performance... its a REALLY tough decision. I would go with 4GB as I'm very fond of mods

All you will end up doing there is paying more for the same card.

Based on the clocks I am achieving the standard direct CU II card clocks to roughly the same level as the TOP model - 1300Mhz core. Unlike previous generation GPU's there doesn't appear to be any form of binning going on with the Kepler GPU's. GPU overclocking headroom seems to down to luck more than anything else.

Considering Skyrim and other games BP plays id take the 4GB frame buffer, is it a huge advantage no but 670s run quiet and cool regardless and as far as vram usage goes with mods etc framerate tends to stay fine, but vram gets eaten quickly especially when increasing Ugrids to load etc for improving draw distances, so for Skyrim etc i would take the 670 4GB, from Zotac, that or if i was gonna get a 2gb 670 id grab the Zotac GTX 670 AMP since its the same card as the 680 just 670 gpu onboard instead.

I do not understand why people snob Zotac so hard, it's a very good brand and very popular here in Europe.

meh Zotac is middle of the road, they are the same company as Sapphire on the AMD side

essentially each is seperate to an extent to exploit both sides but in reality they can be traced back to the same corporation, their just brands, if the card works it works if it dont replace it lol

while i like the ASUS coolers they are huge, but in this situation specs are more meaningful,

670 4GB with a quick OC = 680 with 4gb for alot less, considering BP keeps GPUs for longer then most of us do shes better off getting whats gonna let her play the games she wants now with no compromises while offering good performance down the road. It is a tought decision but in this case, better specs are more meaningful then a better cooler on a card that doesnt get hot lol

I guess 2GB is fine for now. I am looking at 670/680 sli or even 690 but the 2GB per GPU on 999€ card doesn't sound good at all for the future. Maybe I'll just wait for the big kepler and grab a 4GB card then...

I would grab the 4GB model now if you aren't planning on changing the card within a year.
