Why is one superior than the other?
I use real "boutique" speakers.

They are superior for offering a flat response, excellent stereo positioning, and tight accurate bass. I've tried nearly every computer speaker out there on the market, and they all sound very thin and "reedy", and those that offer subwoofers, for the most part, lack mid-range punch.

Of course, I also connect my guitar to my PC, and mid-range frequencies are EXACTLY where the guitar sits....so it's very easy to notice a lack of frequency response for me personally.

I have four of these for main speakers(left/right front, left/right rear):

http://www.athenaspeakers.com/products/as-b2-overview/

Plus one of these for a center channel:

http://www.athenaspeakers.com/products/as-c1-overview/

Plus 2 of these subs:

http://www.athenaspeakers.com/produc...4000-overview/

And two of these for side surround:

http://www.athenaspeakers.com/products/ws-60-overview/

Plus this 7.2 channel amp:

http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio...=paging&page=1

I think it's pretty obvious to see how my $5k home audio system for my PC is superior to any PC-centric set.

I use Desktop Speakers and Headphones...and I use desktop Speakers as my my home audio system as they are plugged into my 4 HTPC's I also use the TV speakers but LCD TV's tend to have crappy no bass speakers and I use both headphones and desktop speakers for my gaming Pc's

Sometimes you need to be able to really hear the game you're playing but you don't want to disturb the entire household so headphones are great for that.
As for the speakers on the HTPC's movies tend to suck without bass and with little to no bass with the LCD speakers you tend to want want the additional bass they give you...but if you're watching non-Sci~Fi TV the Tv's speakers will do.

Very nice. Just wish there was a PTT button on the headset for when I walk away from the keyboard.

Have a soundcard, external DAC, and receiver hooked up to my system. The speakers get used when casually listening to music, otherwise it's silence or headphones.

Both, but usually headset. I switch to Klipsch when I need to be reminded I'm alive (and it isn't the middle of the night). XD

Not voting because of that.

I use my speakers occasionally, but most of the time I use my Sennheiser HD650 headphones with a clip-on mic. So I guess "neither" would be my vote.
Really, you just can't beat a pair of high-end HEADPHONES(not "headset", most headsets sound like garbage and the ones that don't are either insanely overpriced or sound as good as a pair of headphones that cost half or less of the price). You can pick up a damn good clip-on mic for ~$10. Pair that with a great pair of headphones for ~$80 and you've got both bases covered and it'll sound better than that $150 headset.

I've been using Z-5500's since 2008 now.
To be honest I can't compare with any high end head-set because I never owned one.

I have to get a good head set though, and it's somewhat of an urgent issue, since I got pc and speakers in the bedroom...

The husband doesn't really enjoy getting FUS-RO-DAH'd out of deep sleep at 2:30 AM.

HD 598 on my Titanium HD. Every time I try putting together a 2.1 set it's just not adding up to a reasonable expense. The bookshelfs are high enough, but the cheap stereo amps all have some short coming, like not being cheap or sucking ass, and then the sub... there's like a handful of ones not insanely expensive that are excellent, only they're still really freaking expensive, and the best always seem to be ultra rare and hard to find for sale.

I mostly use my home audio 5.1 setup with HDMI to the receiver. It's nice for telling where enemies are in games that support 5.1 audio. The only time I use voice is if I'm playing an MMO. Then I use a very cheap single-ear clip-on headset connected to the onboard audio and only send voice to it.

If it's late at night and I want it loud, then I'll put on my Denon AH-D5000's, connected to my Schiit Asgard amp and HRT MusicStreamer II+ DAC. Sometimes I use them during the day too, just because they generally sound better and a lot of the games I play either don't support 5.1 or don't really need it.
