I've been playing this game for the last few days. I did a run on each difficulty level to get the golden guns and get to know the layout and AI, and to experience more replay value.

I just beat it on Hard last night and am about 5 chapters through on Hardcore currently. Hardcore doesn't feel any harder than Hard though. How do the two differ if at all?

The menu doesn't really clearly differentiate the two. I thought it might be the same damage as hard with less painkillers, but so far even the amount of meds seems the same.

Some parts were easier than I expected, some parts harder. It helps to make a run on each diff level like I said to get to know the game well and improve tactics, mainly positioning, preparedness, and using pills only when you have to.

It's not all that bad until the last 2 chapters, and I used blind fire pretty sparingly. However I did go prone in a few spots to create a choke point where the cover was less than ideal, like the office room, lobby and shooting range of the police station.

The outer walkway of the ship at Panama with the dockside enemies, getting back inside the hotel from the pool terrace and the final firefight were also tough, but the hardest for me was getting into the airport via the conveyor belt and catwalks.

On Medium I just stayed on the airport conveyor belt. On Hard I improvised and got off it and used a good cover spot. Old School is going to make some spots like that tough, as it has no cover system. I'm not sure I'll miss it not having Last Stand though, it glitches a lot.

Yeah I agree, this game is great. So far it's my candidate for Game of the Year 2012.

It's amazing what you can learn from being bold and improvising with well placed shoot dodges, going prone in the right spot, or even crouched shooting and retreating. You can shoot so closely around corners and if you get off your shots quick enough, you take little if any damage. You do risk getting stuck with the dreaded no chance Last Stand with the enemy out of your line of fire, but if done right it pays off in saved health (and accumulated bullet time if you shoot unaided).

This time through on Hardcore I actually managed for the first time to do 4 of the spots I mentioned above without taking any damage. The police lobby (where they come out the elevators and toss smoke) I chained shoot dodges aimed at cover together. The hotel pool terrace I used a combination of shoot dodge and prone shots followed by dives to closer cover where I finished them off with timed cover shots. The office of the police station I peeked through the double doors crouched, shot one guy, then retreated to get the rest as they came to the doors, but the real nice thing was when the heavy armor guy spawned I came out of the cutscene still in that room with the elevator doors and had saved a lot of RPD ammo and bullet time and crouched behind the counter in that room as he came to the double doors. He had no chance. The easiest was the outer walkway of the ship at Panama. I merely went prone back near the door you enter it from and they couldn't see me well enough to even shoot at me, but I was able to headshot all of them.

There's so many ways you can improvise in this game, and the AI don't always take the same routes, so you often have to. That said, I now face the part of the game I dread most, the airport baggage area. It's not so bad except that they give you such little ammo and health to start out with. It's the part of the game that really tests your mettle because it's the only spot where every bullet and duck for cover is critical.
