Good Gpu for Q6600 3.4Ghz
Looks like my Ati 5850 is dead now The bios wont post on screen, my mobo does not have onboard graphics.
What would be a good GPU to upgrade to ? I would like one, preferably with a black pcb. I think I may liquid cool it too but am not sure. Anyone have an idea on my best bet? Budget is not to high atm. this was unexpected lol

Used 6950 unlocked would work great or if you want something cheap but powerful that would be the 6870

Newegg is running a great special: XFX Double D Radeon HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 Video Card (HD-687A-ZDFC) + Deus Ex & Dirt 3 Game Coupons $133 after $30 Rebate + Free Shipping
XFX Double D HD-687A-ZDFC Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-b... I don't have experience with the XFX brand but plenty of reviews online like their "double disapation" fans over stock. Good luck. Last edited by Hilux SSRG; Jun 18, 2012 at 10:37 PM. |

Would the 6950 be much better, or around the same as a 5850 ? I already have a 5800series waterblock. Who knows I may just part out the rig. I was thinking of trying to sell the thing as a whole locally.
Im in Canada too othewise that would be a good deal!

NewEgg.ca's 6870s start at $179 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...m%20Processors
I can attest to the 6870s power. i currently have it paired with a i5 2400, but before Jan 2012 it was paired with a Q9450. the 6870 has enough power to play most games on high @ 1080P regardless of the CPU I used. I have always stayed around the $200 price point since 2008 and the cards i have used have never let me down for the price OR the performance.

6950 is great. You can get one used for $150-200.

Im actually going to go with another 5850 trough a tpu member Frogger. It will be the blue pcb but theres a volt mod for that one I seen online.
Some comparisons Ive read said that the texture detail is a bit lower on the 6950 and gets bumped back up for the 7850 (24nm). I'd say they all perform fairly close from the comparison I seen

Core2duo's are quite nice but I still prefer a first gen I3 with HT for the 4 thread experience. Games are becoming more mulithreaded and it will benefit from the HT.
Sweet deal yesterday was a nice EVGA P55 and I3-530 for 105$ shipped.

Yeah man Sasqui, c2d was a huge bump overall in central processor performance. nv8800 series and than ati's 5800 series plus were the nexted best bump in graphics (well thats when I cut back on upgrading). Amazing Ive had a similar system for 5years and it still competes really well, in gaming atleast.. compared to the newer stuff out there!
I cant wait for my nexted build nut I guess I will have to. I want mid-range gaming capable, quiet and more media pc oriented. I think windows 8 will be just in time for that system. I have a smartphone Samsung s2, maybe someone will make an app to turn on pc remotely I already have a wi-fi remote camera in my house.
