I don't have an hdmi cable..

I changed the mode but it didn't make a difference. I can see the shadowy image faintly there.

I'll try next to not allow the monitor to enter standby but leave it on paint with a black background. Then I'll change to gray and see what happens...

BP: unfortunately, it's as cad explained, the monitor is faulty, so don't go banging your head against a brick wall over this.

Lol .

Hmmm interesting. I tried putting MS Paint totally black for some minutes and then switching to gray. But nothing happens. It seems that as long as the monitor is powered up and warm the 'shadow' is very barely visible. It becomes really nasty only after the monitor switches to standby mode and back again.

Yes, I'm hoping the supplier accepts the rma......

I just discovered something very interesting.

I checked the surface of the screen with an infrared thermometer while the screen was displaying the same color.

The 'unaffected parts' vary between 36.9 and 39 degrees centigrade.
But the part where there is the problem is 49.4 degrees centigrade.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem with my second Dell 17" monitor mounted above my Acer , it seems to occur from physical trauma, such as squeezing it too hard, or dropping it, and so on and so forth. The reason I say this is because after the incident in which the physical trauma occurred, my monitor has had this line down it since then, and it takes like thirty minutes to adjust colors.

Here is a picture of it, lucky me its only my secondary monitor which I use for gadgets and such.

Spoiler

No my defect isn't a sharp line like yours.
Moreover, my monitor never suffered physical trauma. It always stood in the same place on my desk since the very day I purchased it.

I can't even pinpoint when the issue started. It was like some days ago I changed my desktop wallpaper to a photo of a cloudy sky I had taken some time before... and was like whoa what's that big smear to the right?

It almost looks like a "ripple" in the TFT film. I hope you get your RMA that would drive me mental

Here's precisely what's happening. The following videos are at X4 speed.

See the shadow very clearly at the start, then it fades.. in and out... till it nearly all but disappears.

and here you can see it fading totally (only to get it back and sharp when monitor resumes from standby!)

Edit: ignore the 'downward moving waves' on the monitor. I don't see those. But my crappy cellphone video-cam does...

I'm missing my monitor now

How's Dell's RMA? Good I hope?

My seller picked up the monitor last Friday, and he said it would be shipped out this week. I think there's a 3rd party involved though... so he won't be doing the shipping directly himself.

I've never had a problem with a Dell RMA and the part(s) were in my hands very quickly, many times next day.
I always dealt directly with Dell, though, and not a 3rd party.
