New 3DMark Trailer Shows Stunning DirectX 11 Graphics
Futuremark today released its first trailer for the next version of 3DMark. Designed for measuring the gaming performance of everything from tablets and notebooks to high-end desktop gaming systems, the next 3DMark for Windows will be the world's first unified graphics benchmark allowing testing of DirectX 9, DirectX 10 and DirectX 11 capable hardware through the DirectX 11 API. Expected to be released after the launch of Windows 8, this new 3DMark will also be compatible with Windows 7 and Windows Vista. The new trailer provides a preview of the DirectX 11 test and is now available online and in high definition for the first time at 3DMark.com.
3DMark DirectX 11 Tech Demo In the trade town of Scarport, buildings cling to canyon walls above canals of lava and provide shelter from the toxic volcanic atmosphere. Gaudy neon signs flicker as steam rises from the molten rivers running beneath the town. A trader walks along ledges carved from the volcanic rock, smoke swirling around her flowing cloak. Her robotic sentinels keep watch, but what dangers lie hidden in the shadows? The 3DMark DirectX 11 tech demo brings this scene to life with intelligent tessellation and advanced volumetric lighting using real-time light scattering. The visible particles and clouds of smoke in the scene react to other objects using fluid dynamics simulation. Post processing, ambient occlusion and various lens effects complete the look. Watch the trailer below: The new 3DMark is currently in development and is expected later in 2012 following the launch of Windows 8. It will also be compatible with Windows 7 and Windows Vista. |

I hate it when they release "tech demos" as videos and not something you can run on your own hardware. It looks pre-rendered. Unreal should have released the UE4 Samaritan demo to the public. Those who understand what "tech demos" mean are smart enough to also understand that if the demo doesn't run butter smooth, chances are, their hardware is slow.

3Dmark's character animations always look very unrealistic and weird to me.

I hope they get rid of the CPU component of the benchmark, i find it completely useless to a "gaming" benchmark program where its all about the FPS not how much you can OC ya CPU.

Agree. Doesn't look much. The Samaritan video and animation looks 10x times better. We need that released.

Yea it is i agree BUT like you just said its "IN" games, there CPU bench tests are completely separate to that of the GPU tests, and it should be combined, if the test is more CPU intensive (like a real game would be) then the score will reflect that, but they don't have this is what im saying

consoles, see what pcs can do?
![]() this hardware lag behind the pc might cause a split in gaming market (devs doing games for only one platform, well not platform but consoles or pc) which will suck for both sides.

The demo does not impress me..... They made the character cartoony and that's fine, but it's cape doesn't drag correctly.. Very poor demo.. The best part was the flying machine. I've stopped using 3dmark since 05 version and it looks like I won't be using it in the future either..
EDIT: and about the CPU part.. It sucks ass.. I have a CPU benchmark.. I just want a video card Benchmark!

You guys are missing the point. I understand what you are saying Mussel, but do you play your RTS game with just your CPU? I hope not.. The VGA benchmark uses the CPU as well correct? The old benchmark used the CPU better when they filled the screen with multiple characters walking and what not.. But using the CPU alone to render the graphics is crazy for someone that never plans to do that in game. Why not add a RTS benchmark rather than just a CPU benchmark?
The greater our knowledge increases the more our ignorance unfolds. - John F. Kennedy EDIT: The quote is not directed to you Mussels. It's directed to 3dMark.

3dmark11 is extremely GPU bound so I think they are headed in the right direction if they keep it similar to that in 3dmark12

That character animation is CAAAAARP! Common! Stop using interlaced movement vertices, this is a thing of lazy programming. Use some motion capture for once.

This didn't look terrible, but did not impress most of us and here's the reason why...its a "work in progress"
![]() I'm sure with a little buff and shine, by the time it hits retail, the demo will look better and play through smoother (depending on your hardware)

I sure hope they polish the shit out of that turd....
I <3 3DM programs and buy them all for the eye candy alone, don't hate...lol.. If it bites though, I see no point in getting it..
