Hey What you think on this Fann Moding for my HD 4870 ?

hello guys! i have this idia for my AMD ATI RADEON HD 4870, so i have stock cooler on it and i have oc on my GPU is 780Mhz and Mem is 1005Mhz so i get 128.6GB/s and my temps in idel is 45.5c and some working time i get 46c and full load in bf3 about hour in game i reach 57c-60c and i want ask you guys for one thing i have a small fan and i want put it on back of my Grafic card to blow fresh wind to my back gpu i have made picture how is wold look like with this, but first i want opinion if its worth it and if is a good ideia ? i live you pic;

Im pretty sure that won't do anything. You should instead get an actual cooler. and 57-60c isn't even that high.

A better idea would be leaving your case door open while you game if not already opened.

I used to have a 120mm fan proped at the back of the gpu and it kept the surface cool to the touch. I dont think that tiny fan is going to do a darn thing imo

wont make any difference. it may fool the temp sensor on the PCB if there is one present.

hang a 120mm fan on the back side of the ODD bays and let it cool the entire card, or add a fan to the door of your case to blow right in at the side of the card.

Not a bad idea at all. Might as well try it. I'm sure it will lower you GPU temps a little.

Don't suppose its any different from the 80mm fan mount available on my CM 690II that blows cool air on the backside of the CPU socket. Don't expect large drops, but it surely wont hurt.

Thanks guys hehe i need think on this solution i have realy good temps with my stock cooler on this monster 4870 :P i have my fan at 41% and my grafic card have an OC like i told on top of post, and my temps idle are 45.5c and 46 is a very cool temps for this card with manual fann control caus if i live my fan in auto the temps going like 60C idle and full load is 89c " FANN AUTO" but my fann is in manual and i get 45.5C :P so is cool temps he and i also got 120mm side fan and one 140mm red led fann also side dor and this tow fanns are now blowing wind on grafic card and as i have this small fann i think it can be usfule and i can use it so wy not ? if i get temps like 40C or 41C is cool is -4C or -3C ery very good perfomance and is like entusiast top gpu like 5870 i get grait perfomance in BF3 i play for hours and i get grait FPS 80-90FPS max and min is 55-47 but at moust time is 65-66 Fps all maps even in 64mp maps all setings ultra and no AA and reso is 1360x1024 on my new ASUS LED monitor 18.5' this roocks guys thanks for advise !

I have 2 4870's in crossfire. A Asus Dark knight and the other is the same card you have. Mine isn't oced and my fan is set at 65% and the temps are running the same as yours. So with your's being oced I think your temps are great.

it aint help the temp much
first the fan is small second the gap between the fan and the pcb too close so the airflow wont circulate nicely

PCBs are the other part that dissipates heat, they dont do the best job but they still do. How are you going to mount a fan on the back of the card? and Also another note the smaller the fan the faster it has to rotate to push air, thus louder. Other issue is spacing so you dont wreck any SMDs or solder joints on the card

You can mount a 120mm fan of your choice in 3x empty 5.25 bays by using strips of foam, like the kind that comes with your GPU box. Then just get some mesh bay covers and good to go, or leave them off entirely..
