noise through speakers coming from the video card? MSI GTX580

I have a noise (low tone repeating sound, almost popping) coming through my speakers that I believe is cause by my MSI GTX580.
I did not have the noise until I replaced my GTX280.

Anyone seen/heard this before?

Could be your soundcard picking up noise over the PCIe bus.

I have tried multiple video card drivers.
I actually stopped using my XFI sound card when I initially reformatted and installed the GTX580. XFI sc is still installed, but I will remove shortly and see.

Have you eliminated the speakers as being the cause? Unplug them, turn the volume up, and it should be silent. If you hear something, either interferance is getting into the wires or an amplifier is going out.

Goos thoughts there Ford. Might also be a result of bad wiring in the house, and the higher power draw of the GTX580. I have my PC on a dedicated circuit, but my guitar amp, which is on a differnet circuit, still picks up weird noises from the PC...noises I don't hear if the amp is off.

Unplugged the speaker at the mobo output, sound stops... It may actually be the motherboard audio output.

I will re-install the xfi card and see if it goes away plugged into the card.

i to have this problem but mines is more a small whine, i have heard it could be caused by E.M.I or as others have said the signals being picked up from various mobo components or nearby wirelss kits/hardware ageing, so when the sound cards installed let us know if it helps your problem mines might be similar

I re-installed the XFI audio card, noise is still present. This morning I noticed even when I mute the audio in my system the noise is still present.

Does that make this a grounding issue? or?

Hmm might be the psu? my noise changes in pitch when the psu is under more and more load, its not my gpu as i have tried two the noise is persistant however when i mute my speakers it goes away i never thought of grounding

It might be something as simple as a poor cable from PC to speakers. As I said, my guitar amp will pick up wierd sounds from the PC..sounds that otherwise i do not hear. So it's also possible that the cable is a bit microphonic(tap the cable with your hand, if you hear the tap in your speakers, replace the cable).

I think we can confidently say that some part of the audio loop is picking up the outside niose, seemingly introduced by the GTX 580. I very much would like to hear what the actual cause is.

first take a look at jack or cables, loose connection or bad cable could give you any noises, but electric noise that comes from electric stuff it can hardly remove,
you can try to separate sound cables from electric cables or buy better cables that have better noise insulator
beside that check your speaker too

Noise from graphics card. I had the same problem - ATI card, MSI m/board and EMU audio card.

Easily remedied:

You simply need to screen the audio card from the graphics.
I did this by fitting an old network card between graphics and sound card. I didn't install the actual software, just stuck the network card in the slot to act as a barrier.
Works silently now.

Try it out and if it works for you, spread the word. Lots of people online suffering same problem.

If you use on board audio, not sure what you can do.

I knew someone who had issues with his audio and come to find out his power cord for his computer was causing noise on the audio cable which ran right next to it for a little over a foot. Improperly shielded audio cables (plus other sources of unshielded components emitting EMI) could be susceptible to cross-talk.

Yes, ac adapters typical culprits for EMI. Best to run audio and power leads at 90 degrees to one another too.

I get the same problem, but the noise through is only audible my headphones (JVC RX700) when I set the graphics card fan speed to over 60%... I get a really quiet popping-kind-of sound in my left ear.
You know those little plastic things around the cable on a console controller? That's a copper ferrite ring that is apparently supposed to help with EMI issues. I'd try sticking one of them around your audio output cable from your PC to your stereo. I'm going to try sticking one around my headphones cable as soon as I can locate a spare one of those rings
