PowerColor makes new graphics card in celebration of Chinese New Year
In celebration of the year of the pig, PowerColor is making a graphics card with a beautiful heatsink shaped like a pig. The midrange X1650Pro certainly isn't underpowered. Underneath the shiny pig heatsink is a RV535 clocked at 600MHz, paired with 256MB of GDDR3 clocked at 700MHz (DDR 1400MHz).

I tend to disagree with that statement, though the 1400MHz memory does help the x1650Pro out a lot, the core is just extremely weak. I honestly regret buying my x1650Pro(and my x1650XT). The x16*0 series really is pretty weak. I love ATI and all(9800Pro/x800GTO2 FOR LIFE!), but their mid-range area is their weakest area.

Could be worse, powercolor could be EVGA and try to put a pig cooler on a low-profile 7100LE
.

the x1650 is a casual gamers card. i used them at my cyber cafe and they were damned great for gaming at 1024x768 for a few hours... most people were very impressed by the power of the systems.
That said, gaming at 1280x1024 or higher is definately pushing them. |

As a "consumer" card, this is an excellent product. Powerful enough for HTPC, internet, office apps, DVD etc. It's not designed as an enthusiasts card. Most of the people here are enthusiasts, so we wouldn't buy one for ourselves. But for the parents? Relatives? Schools? Office? What would YOU recommend?
And for the consumer... especially the chinese market... this is a cool differentiator. Why brand X not brand Y when the price is the same +/- a few dollar? Because piggy on X, I buy X not Y. That's enough of a reason!

Certianly not a x1650Pro, they don't even need that much power, and don't need to be spending $100 on a graphics card. Onboard is good enough for the most part, maybe something cheap like a x1050, or maybe just a basic x1300Pro. Or you could go over to NVidia and get a 7300GT and it should easily fill the role for half the price of a x1650Pro.
