gpu warranty?
Guys a friend of mine received a few days ago a new msi gtx560 ti HAWK, but the card didnt worked well , temps on load rise til 81c in Furmark. He tested the in my rig and the same problem. the highest temps for that card in all most reviews is 65c.
so he went rogue !! and applied some new artic paste and voila! ![]() same problem... So hes considering in sending it back , but my question is? Warranty covers that kind of temps problems? and if he took off the cooler/heatsink of the gpu and applied new paste will be that a problem? he bought it in amazon... all your knowledge is welcome... thanx

Cuba is hot , it's summer. I would advice don't stress with furmark. That's dangerous software.
Try normal games to stress. |

if your room is over 80-90f then those temps are normal
80c isn't gonna break it how ever if your room is 65-70f then you might have a defective heatpipe |

Do you have afterburner installed? What is your default voltage? I've seen some cases where some GPUs run with more voltage than they need and higher than other deafults for the same model card.

All you can do is ask. If it came from Amazon, they may take it back depending on how long ago it was purchased. If not, then MSI may be gracious enough to take it.
If no returns are possible, then next step would be to take the cooler off, clean well and re-apply paste. Not uncommon to have OEM cooling hardware not applied properly. Be sure to replace or make sure thermal pads are still intact.

It all depends if they notice it has been tampered with... just my opinion. I believe your questions are best referred to the manufacturer, all you will get here are best guess answers. Here are some exclusions they list from here > http://www.msi.com/service/warranty/ Quote:
If you have something like a guarantee of the temps from the manufacturer or some other documentation from MSI , then you may have a better chance at an exchange or repair under the warranty. Last edited by 95Viper; Jul 12, 2012 at 12:33 PM. |

I have a Twin Frozr II and it will happily go to over 70 in gaming if I forget to turn up fan speed. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if it hit 80 while Furmark'ing.
Do NOT use Furmark to gauge the heat of your card, play a game instead. Furmark is meant to gauge stability of your card under heavy load, not heat. Find the most graphics intensive game you've got (BF3 is mine) and test on that. Record maximum temps with card at "auto" fan speed and then do a run with card at 65% fan speed (The speed I set my fan to when BF3'ing) and report temps. Report back with these results and if it turns out your card is no good, then we can talk about how to make it look like you haven't changed TIM (even though it's slightly dishonest, it's not completely deceitful).

And if he went and put too much on and it's a different color than the stock paste, they might take notice, I'm not sure if they'd take the card apart when testing it, but they might.

normally they do not even inspect the cards just make sure you don't tell them
the air temps are whats killing you there is nothing you can do just run the dam card and if it melts it melts
