Beware Phishing attempt on Steam!!

Beware a chat request from someone on Steam posing as an Admin with the name "Admin".

This person is phishing for your login information.

They claim you need to update SteamGuard within 5 hours or your account will be disconnected or you may also begin seeing bans. There is a fake Steam Site link in the message.

Just to be safe i changed my Steam Password. I have also reported the user for social engineering and phishing.

This has been happening for quite some time. User sends idiot an obviously suspicious link advertising "free games" or some crap, they click on it and their account gets hijacked and becomes part of a "botnet" that begins initiating chat requests with random users in groups (usually less than 150 members).

Obviously, don't click on stupid looking links from random people because Valve will never instant message you.

Well, among those tens of millions of Steam accounts there surely are some who might bite, don't you think?

i bit initially as I had just woken up and did not re-read the chat box statement. I re-read it and noticed all the spelling mistakes and the fake site link then changed my password. I dont normally get tricked like this. I should stop drinking copious amounts of alcohol late at night. ^_^

Ive have tonnes of phishing emails contacting me about inactive Aion, WoW, LoTR and other random MMOrpg game accounts almost everyday.

Never been fooled by it. because I dont even play the games they are talking about

I get the odd fake facebook phishing scams too. I rarely use FB so I dont care too much.

Yep I get accused of trying to sell my WoW account and my Runescape account prolly once a week. Never played either one of them

Oh yeah, if you were to hear the people that call the IT helpdesk at my workplace you'd fully understand why. It's hard to understand how these people live their lives, let alone work a computer. You've never seen such fail.
