I always liked Snag-It, though I never tried it with 3D Games, just training and marketing videos for AutoCAD.

The rare time I record video from my PC I use the free recording built into MSI afterburner.
It supposedly records audio too, but my vids are always video only. |

I haven't used it in so long I do not recall, but it was definitely dependant on the screen resolution. Also may also depend on the complexity of the screen being captured if the output is compressed. So it probably isn't a 1:1 relationship.

You're going to have trouble recording on that hardware. 1Gb of memory and a Pentium 4 isn't exactly known for handling real time media well. Just a friendly warning.

When I had a Core 2 Duo it didn't do a good job at it either, why not something modern? I don't know what you use your computer for, how much money you have, or what you have at your disposal, but if I were you I would just go for a straight up modern computer. At bare minimum, I would say a quad-core with the memory controller on the CPU. It doesn't seem very practical to build a new machine just to record your screen well imho.

Depends on the resolution, at 1080p, good luck with quality. At 480p should look great, 720p it should look pretty good at that kind of bitrate.

Fraps works good for me, it records audio as well as video, even when im talking into my mic, but for some reason the videos that fraps record always have higher contrast and you cant see much stuff in dark areas, but I think its because I use it in 540p mode. Either one you choose, your not going to get 30mb per 30 minutes, no way no how.

As I mentioned before on other "whatīs the best recording......" topics and since you have a "low end" machine my advice is buy a DVR.
You can buy DVRīs from 80€ [100USD] and thatīs all you need, you can even have a 386DX4 and not having any problem recording @ 1080p. ![]() Connect the GPU to DVR, DVR to TV, Monitor etc and press record. Last edited by MasterInvader; Jul 24, 2012 at 11:52 AM. Reason: typo |

Well downloaded Action! and i am impressed with the vid quality but it is still big at the lowest settings 1min/25Mb i will like it if it were 5-10 mb
btw, it is better then FRAPS **EDIT: Also it only have 480p, 720p and 1080p no 360p why? if it were at 360p it will be smaller vid size. Well you guys say that it is not possible to record at 1mb/min but how the guys on youtube do it well they do not do 1:1 but they do 3-4 min in 20mb with a above average quality.** Last edited by gopal; Jul 24, 2012 at 12:24 PM. Reason: Added edit and the second time typo |
