AMD Cuts Global Prices of Radeon HD 7000 Series

AMD is preparing a wave of price-cuts for Radeon HD 7800 series and HD 7900 series products, to make them competitive against NVIDIA's offerings, and to prepare for a new bunch of performance-segment GPUs from its competitor (such as the GTX 660). The new pricing looks like this:

• Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition: US $499
• Radeon HD 7970: US $429
• Radeon HD 7950: US $349
• Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition: US $299
• Radeon HD 7850: US $249

The most significant set of price cuts concern HD 7950 and below, which are now more affordable in the price-performance "sweetspot" segment, which targets a bulk of PC gamers. The new prices will take effect later today.

7970 is still overpriced at 429 bucks. I bought two GTX 670 DC II TOP for ~$430 each , which is a better deal.

I usually don't spend $860 on graphics cards but I couldn't stop myself after wizz gave it a 10/10.

So the GTX 670 is better than HD 7970. this after reviews have shown the HD 7970 at 1.05 Ghz is faster than GTX 680 at 1.05 Ghz . And moreover HD 7970s clock 1125 Mhz in AMD CCC and even higher with voltage tweaking. nice going.

So, the 7850 remains as it is since it's the only card that probably sells well. 7950/7870 are priced to make them attractive before the 660Ti hits.

Direct CU II is faster than 7970, whisper quiet in both idle and load, and very power efficient. For a multi-GPU setup, the last two advantages matters. I think I made the right choise.

No one here will leave a GPU at stock frequencies, the 7970 is better for the same price if you are going to tweak it, there is a wider overclock headroom.

The 670 is only better if you plan to install the GPU and then forget about it.

I agree with your choice man. I have two 670 FTW's in SLI and they're silent and power consumption is king. They're definitely the BEST choice for a dual GPU setup.

When I had the 670 DCUII's they throttled to all hell when they were in SLI. Unfortunately they were sandwiched together since my board has a traditional PCIe slot configuration. This time around I have a 3000rpm 120mm Ultra Kaze blowing 133.6cfms of air to em in a HAF X case.

If you get a custom HD 7970 like Gigabyte HD 7970 Windforce the card runs cool.

Under full load the temperature increased to 67c, however fan speed only increased to 34%. We did not have any issue with the fans at this speed. On the overclocked GIGABYTE Radeon HD 7970 we had fan speeds set to 80%, which was not as loud as most video cards, and helped remove a ton of excess heat. At idle, the video cards temperature was 25 degrees Celsius. Under full load with fans still at 80% temperature only reached 56c. "

FYI thats a 1300 Mhz HD 7970 running at 56c with fan speed at 80% and at reasonably low noise levels. And the best part is there is no throttle even if you get your cards to 75c at lesser fan speeds.

and the gigabyte 7950 down to 300

i think its time to upgrade next month

What more telling about these price drop, is I just started noticing that sites like Egg are now showing stock on both 670/680 Sku’s in many varieties, up till a week or so it had been slim picken’s and prices where a little more stout. I think AMD finally saw Nvidia channel was filling and figure it time to entice those who have been on the sidelines.

Up till now purchases have been affiliated along party lines, but I think with the out-of-skool/graduation buying gone, it’s time to get into the normal price consideration for such a mature product offerings. But that said, these have been the pricing I’ve seen for quite a few of AMD’s partners offering since mid-June, but this will mean many more good deals will move the market in a positive direction for many who held off in purchasing from either company.

Retailers here today just upped their 670 prices from 399 to 429 on referance designs.

These prices look good but they wont hit retailers for a week or two.

Domestic 6pk is ~ $10, so ya

Once you hit a pub/bar/restaurant/night club/etc prices get to ~$6/beer + & ~$9/liquor +

If you want to go out and drink, the cheapest option i can think of is the Legion. They don't charge V/A's full pop
