Windows 8 Launch Date Finalized

We knew since a little earlier this month, that Microsoft's next major operating system's launch is scheduled for October, with enterprise/partner availability in August. The Windows Team let out a specific date for availability to consumers: Fri., October 26, 2012. The date was announced by Steven Sinofsky, president of Windows division at Microsoft, at the company's annual sales meeting. The Friday launch allows users to spend the weekend with installations and getting a hang of the new OS.

So how much is this going to cost?

For a new Windows 8 OEM build, how much will it cost? Also does it support TRIM for SSD's?

I tried to learn Linux once in college, it has a steep learning curve, the one I tried did anyway. What is the Linux OS everyone generally uses? Ubuntu or Redhat? I don't know much about the Linux universe, just that there are thousands of different OS's to choose from... heh

Ubuntu is the most popular distro...and Linux Mint is the easiest one (most of the Mint distro´s are based on Ubuntu)

On my work I use only BackTrack ....

I am a Windows user - mainly because of the games, but since Valve has decided to
support Linux (in the first round Ubuntu) I am a happy man.....and hopefully soon a complete NON-Windows user, even my phone is Linux (Android)

Try the preview. It has SSD maintenance.

Windows 8 is just for fun.. forget using it as a professional PC..

Every task requires more number of mouse clicks... then Windows 7

Not going to update to Windows 8 at office..

Why read a review when you can just install the preview? I installed it and a week later I formatted the partition.

I tried the early preview and I got really confused how to do simple things that in 2000 and in XP and in Vista and in 7 were really easy to do.

It starts up really quick though.. I liked that bit.

What exactly is new on Windows 8? I mean more Microsoft crap to get rid of? Totally idiotic OS behavior with applications and less security than anything before.

Those are just the few things this is all about. 1 desktop theme (which probably can be override to Windows 7 much earlier/already) hardly cuts Windows prices not to even consider the idea that any regular PC with so called "HOME" edition is uber crap and you can't even get rid of the microsoft crap unless you use 3rd party tools set or japanese pirated mmc's.

Barf!

I wish I could just avoid this abomination entirely. Unfortunately I will need to be proficient with it due to my work.

I guess I might be interested if it came with a 24" touchscreen to replace my screen. Then I might see the "cool" in Metro...

I am guessing you have not been paying much attention to it. It is now common knowledge that there will only be Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, Windows 8 Enterprise and Windows RT.
