i think a 6870 (or a 6900 series used) would be the best bet on the AMD side, unless you can save a bit more cash and go for a HD 7850. My 6870 handles BF3 Premium on a mix of med-high settings at a good framerate.

Don't know what prices you have there but 7850 is your best bet for a good midrange card. It also has 2GB VRAM compared with 1GB for the 6870/5870 and or BF3 this is useful. As for ULTRA depends on what resolution you play and if you want 60FPS or lower. Any of these three cards can play ULTRA but with different average framerates.

For 160€ the market allows you to buy a HD 6870, HD 6850, used HD 6950 1GB/2GB, GTX 560 (non-Ti), used GTX 560 Ti, HD 7770. If you want high-end, cough-up the dough. BF3 is very dependent on the graphics department and the ultra setting isn't that much better than high, visually, but it will take a big hit on the card.

The HD 7xx0 series are expensive here. He has 160€ to spend. The cheapest HD 7850 I can find is 220€.

XFX is a good brand, my 6870 is Sapphire but a friend has that exact XFX card and I enjoy its performance (tho its in a dual core system, whereas mine is paired with a quad core i5).

Good card, yes. Good deal, no.
The seller is trying to recover the cash spent on it. If I were to buy an HD 6870 for that price, I would buy one new.
See if you can get him to lower it down to 95~105€, otherwise it is a bad deal.
For those 150€, the GTX560 Ti linked above is a better deal. (The card has considerably more performance)

Yes, it is essentially two downclocked 5870s in one card.
Be sure that your power supply unit can handle it. Which, if it is to be that NOX NX620, it won't cut it. You need, at least 650W... 750W to be on the safe side.

You can get a unlocked 6950 or a 6970 on Ebay for around 170. that is what I did with my first first build.

No. I'm able to find new cards for that price and, personally, I don't care for when it was bought. Still, it's my opinion so it's your call.
I'm not saying to go lowball on him, but consider that although he has all the papers and stuff, he bought the card in Madeira, which means it will be a hassle for you (pay postage) if something goes wrong and you have to use the warranty. Even for RMA you have to send the card to the store.
He is selling the card at store price and the card is used, period.
The GTX 560Ti is still a better option even if the price doesn't drop from 150€.
