Steam Subscriber Agreement

Did anyone else get this today? It won't let me play unless I agree to it. WTF? How the fuck can they do this? I already paid for the right to play the games and now they are changing the rules. I am being forced to agree to something I don't want to.

read it here.

I particularly like this part.

Quote:
YOU AND VALVE AGREE NOT TO BRING OR PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION, PRIVATE ATTORNEY GENERAL ACTION OR COLLECTIVE ARBITRATION, EVEN IF AAA’s PROCEDURES OR RULES WOULD OTHERWISE ALLOW ONE. THE ARBITRATOR MAY AWARD RELIEF ONLY IN FAVOR OF THE INDIVIDUAL PARTY SEEKING RELIEF AND ONLY TO THE EXTENT OF THAT PARTY’S INDIVIDUAL CLAIM. You and Valve also agree not to seek to combine any action or arbitration with any other action or arbitration without the consent of all parties to this Agreement and all other actions or arbitrations.
If the agreement in this Section not to bring or participate in a class or representative action, private attorney general action or collective arbitration should be found illegal or unenforceable, you and Valve agree that it shall not be severable, that this entire Section shall be unenforceable and any claim or dispute would be resolved in court and not in collective arbitration.
It says basically that we are going to do this unless it's not legal.

No fucking wonder people download!!!!!

It makes me want to.

We (Steam and I) already have an agreement. They are changing it without consulting me first and not honouring the original agreement.

That you can't start class action suits against them. However, if you do have an issue they'll go to arbitration with you and will play all your legal fees, if the sum of damages sought is <= 3000USD

I don't see why the average user would want to start a class action suit against them.

but they are the boss, is like a car producer tell than you have to returb back your car for change a particular thing for your sake , if you for dont agree why you dont see where is your sake in that.
you have to remember the big problem with steam account months ago.
I think is for this problem and for who use cheat for bring games without paying or make inappropriate use of the game like cheat with the cause of make bad advertisements about steam or the game and the company who make it .

If you don't read and fully understand EULA's, they're not binding. So...I try not to read them.

I have and will never buy a game through Steam or anyone else for that matter (only hard copies), so I have nothing to worry about.

The Robin Hood in me gets angry when the powerful try to fuck with the little people.

All great and all but what am i suppose to do with 250 games already attached to the account? Just forget about them if i don't aggree with their new terms? This is how dictatorship looks like. You don't really get a choice, really. I mean, whats the point of bloody asking me if i have to agree with it either way if i want to access my games?

Why don't people realize that this is an improvement on their old policy. Their old policy was that if you brought them to court, any court at all, or enforced your consumer rights at all that they would close your account and you'd lose your games.

Now not only are they adding in something to let you dispute getting a refund on a game(something they refused to do 99% of the time before no matter how unplayable the game was) and they are allowing you to go to small claims without losing your games. And I think they've explained pretty well why they don't allow class action suits. They don't want the bad publicity and when you're disputing something like a $50 purchase the lawyer is going to luck out a lot more than you with a class action. It's better for both parties to keep it in small claims.

This is just to deter simple minded people from trying to sue. Again a lawyer would chew right through this.

Of course. Its a video game service. No need for a class action lawsuit. Its not your F#$king mortgage company for Sh!T sakes.

Like I said, I am not worried about it.

It's the gull of these companies that irks me.

Being in business and or being rich doesn't make you evil in any way. Being a teacher doesn't mean you are morally better then them either.
