Trade my 3570K for a 2600K?
I have a brand new, sealed 3570K that I'm planning on using for an upcoming build, but wonder if it would be any wise to trade it for a 2600K. I can probably do an even trade or pay minimal (since my 3570K is sealed) for the extra 4 threads and more cache, with the only caveat being the older architecture with a slightly lower IPC.
I don't do any encoding so there really is no reason to have the extra threads, but this rig needs to last me for the next 4 years and I might benefit from the extra threads down the road. What would you guys do?

If you are going with longevity of the cpu then you can't go wrong with the 2600K, yes it is from the previous generation but the added HT will server you better than simply newer architecture and if it can be a minimal or even trade then I say jump on it also SB tends to run cooler anyway which means higher overclocks.

Tough question. I personally prefer to buy new. While indeed the 2600 has HT, the 3570 has PCI-e 3.0 which might come handy further down the road.

If you have any concerns about pci-e 3.0 then take a look at this comparison.
http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/...mance_review/2 The differences in even a GTX are minimal at best. As for future cards that is just something to keep in the back of your mind.

I'd go for the 2600k in a heartbeat on a straight up trade from a 3570k (or paying a small amount).
eh by the point that the PCI-E lanes become a bottleneck he'll probably upgrade again.

3570k. More efficient, slightly better performance clock/clock, better IMC + GFX, PCIe 3.0....

I kind of wondered about that... I have a kit of the famous Samsung 30nm memory and could benefit from the improved IMC. However, I'll never take advantage of PCI-E 3.0 since I don't game. I just picked up a GTX 550 Ti to drive my 1440P monitor for daily tasks.

I'd trade it.
2600k has the heat spreader attached via fluxless solder. No telling how long that thermal paste will hold up in the 3570k. |

Do you guys think adding $25 is a fair deal for a brand new and sealed 2600K? I was hoping for an even trade for a used one, but wouldn't mind paying the extra for a BNIB one.

I could always trade it back for a 3570K + cash down the road if I wanted to, but is there any particular reason why you would have kept the 3570K? If I won't be using integrated graphics, my case doesn't exactly have the best cooling (SilverStone GD05 media case), I'm never going to be able to take advantage of PCI-E 3.0, and this rig needs to last me 4 years so the extra threads surely would be more beneficial than a 5-10% IPC increase in architecture.
