Windows 8 RTM.....anyone try it yet?
Windows 8 RTM is available on Technet and MSDN as of yesterday. Anyone give it a whirl yet? I installed it on my laptop last night (currently dual-booting 7 and 8 just in case). So far no real complaints about it. Great startup speed, fast and fluid. Thought I would hate the Start screen but it actually doesn't bother me too much. I was one of the people that thought I would hate the new UI, but it's really starting to grow on me. Need to give it at least a week of use though and see if I still like it.
Overall, well done Microsoft! Now if I could just find a cheap Wintel tablet to install it on.... |

My colleague is purposely being a dildo and not downloading it. He knows my department needs it but he's delaying, Apple fanboi douche.
I'm looking forward to seeing how I get on with it.

Not sure why I just noticed this since I've been running the previews for a while, but the Task Manager Startup tab gives you some pretty good info on the impact certain programs have on startup speed.

It's just called Windows 8, try searching for it, that's what I had to do yesterday since Technet's servers were being hammered.

Mine looks different
Must just be cause I'm in the UK? the iso is labelled: HRC_CCSA_X64FRE_EN_US which google identifies as final RTM 9200

Technet-subscription FTW!
Running the 64-bit RTM on both an older Acer Travelmate 8371 lappie, and on my gamebox. No issues once I got my head around the new functionality and the lack of a startmenu. It feels faster than Win7 on both machines, no issues with gaming (Tested various Steam-games, including ARMA II and Supreme Commander on it, both with every graphics-option maxed as well as EVE Online, again with everything maxed out), and is, once you get used to it, very easy to use. Some stuttering on the lappie (it's old and beaten, but still functional), but still not bad. Will most likely disappear once I stuff an SSD into it. The few irky points I DO have with it is related mostly to the built-in MSN Messenger. It's a bit lacking in functionality compared to the full client, and it's awkward having to right-click the screen and then hit delete in order to get rid of a conversation instead of just pressing Esc. The fact that I can pin the messenger-window in it's own little slice of the screen is nifty, however, especially when you have 2x24" monitors running at 1920x1200. No issues with any of the hardware I currently have (siggie is slightly outdated).

Got it from work and attempted an install to a secondary SSD last night but something was wrong because it was incredibly sluggish, even just to boot the DVD. It did not like something in my present configuration apparently. Need to start with a BIOS reset and try again. Was on AHCI...

I have the RTM installed. Played BF3 and TF2 and MWLL on it since installation. No Problems on my desktop with I7-2600K on a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3. Also using Office 2013 preview with it.

I've been using the 8400 build since it was released (The release preview build), haven't had any major issues. Only issue I encounter was Origin acting randomly crashing after it was opened. I beleive EA fixed this issue with a recent patch, but prior to the patch, I had to change the compatibility on the executable for it to work properly.
I plan to try the RTM when I have time. But so far, windows 8 = awesome.

I was meant to install Profession today but I just played DayZ instead.
I will, once I can be arsed, install 8. Wonder how long I can stand it for?

I have been using it straight on for 2 weeks. Even my ham radio equipment software works on it with no problems.
