Firefox breaking down and causing lag

So I've just downloaded and installed the 12.8 drivers a few hours ago and this started happening. (I've also installed the latest shock wave player, done full restart of PC).

Please notice the black squares... Now these black and white squares jump all over the screen randomly as well as that random orange color... I was watching a documentary on youtube @ the time. It's happened a few times while on youtube already and when I'm playing games, firefox causes my frames to drop massively until I kill it.

Firefox reinstall? Or is it another issue?

EDIT: Sorry for shitty image quality, its late and I'm getting tired

Ok so it just happened again (without the random squares), my entire screen went black as I scrolled down the webpage, on all tabs I had open, as soon as I scrolled, it went pure black

1. Firefox flash support has been hit or miss latley. Combine that with new drivers and boom.
2. Does this happen in other browsers?
3. If this started right after the driver install I would assume its the drivers.

Yeah straight after install, it started happening. First time anything like this has happened however.

EDIT: Testing IE9 out now. Seeing if the same thing happens

Make sure your Flash is up to date not Shockwave. Like MM said they have been quite spotty lately but they have been putting out updates a little more frequently.

If your Flash is up to date and still causing issues go into Tools/Options/Advanced and disable "Use Hardware Acceleration when Available. That should sort out the Firefox issues.

I installed the 12.8's yesterday I believe and made sure my Flash was totally up to date and chanced turning my Hardware Acceleration back on(Had it disabled for the last few drivers because of the issues) So far it's been fine(For now anyway)

Earlier this month, Adobe updated its Flash Player to version 11.3, but the upgrade has been a bit of a problem for Firefox users.

According to Mozilla's support page, Flash-based videos "may appear black, white or grey and never play" in Firefox since the update.

In a Tuesday blog post, Adobe acknowledged the problem and said it was "working closely with Mozilla to narrow down the issue and get it resolved as soon as possible."

One culprit might be compatibility issues between RealPlayer and Adobe Flash Player 11.3 in Firefox.

"Flash Player 11.3 introduces the Protected mode in Firefox 4.0 or later on Windows Vista and Windows 7. The Protected mode is a new security enhancement designed to limit the impact of attacks launched from malicious SWF files against Flash Player," Adobe said. "In the Protected mode, SWFs are rendered using a sandboxed Flash Player runtime. The RealPlayer extension for Firefox, Downloading & Recording, has compatibility issues with Flash Player 11.3."

Adobe published a workaround that "may solve the issue," it said.

Adobe asked those encountering problems to report them on the Adobe help site. "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your continued support," the company said.

I was having problems as well. My PC would just shut off without warning. I uninstalled Flash player 11.3 and went back to 11.2 and it's been better so far.

It's not your drivers.

Update.

Upon rolling back the system got stuck trying to restart my cards, with that annoying sound when you plug and unplug devices playing constantly with a black screen, showing my desktop briefly before disconnecting again.

Well done ATI, I'm going to Nvidia next round.

Uninstalling, restarting system then installing 12.6. The rollback function is fudged for this driver

Yup drivers. ATI drivers blow. Sorry man. I was hoping it was a simple Flash issue.

FYI I left ATI after almost 15 years because of the drivers since Nov. I'm not just a "NVIDIA" fan boy.

Oh fucking wonderful, It reinstalled 12.8 after my driver cleaning reset, even after I apparently deleted all stored driver data on prompt when uninstalling...

SO FUCKING RETARDED.

Checking driver version now

(From website) The AMD Catalyst software suite 12.8 contains the following:

AMD display driver version 8.982

(from my PC) Driver Packaging Version

8.982

I'm at a loss for words @ how retarded the operating system is... I uninstall a driver, and it reinstalls it on boot up. HELLO I UNINSTALLED IT FOR A REASON

EDIT: Someone post in this thread when a fix comes out, just in case I miss it (and considering my luck, there's a high chance of it happening)

Turn off "Install Recommended Updates" until you get this fixed. Just rememeber to TURN IT BACK ON when you are done. This will keep the OS from installing anything until you tell it too.
