there will always be solo/ninjas. but i havnt played NS2, so i couldn't speak for it. ill probably wait for release before buying it =p. im falling into too many "pre-order" traps for games that should be good, but end up being eugh. |

The game, in my opinion, is fantastic as is. Has a bit to go but it is still my favorite game and I play it every other day at least. $15-$20 saved by going preorder... worth it. There will be steam free weekends. People interested can try it out then. Edit: If any of you are familiar with the cynacle brit (total biscuit) youtube game reviews/first looks... He just made some ns2 vids. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhu9...layer_embedded https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duiN...feature=relmfu He plays like a complete noob. Gameplay is much faster than that usually. Edit: Those videos there gave ns2 such a much larger user base. Before them there was an average of 5 servers full on a givin day. Today there was 25+ fulls servers. It was kinda annoying to play with so many people who don't know what they are doing... but so fantastic to have a large userbase now.

Last night I had the best ns2 match ever. It was on the norcal server with the map being summit. I was on the marine team so I will refer to them as we.
The we started in data core and the aliens in sub access. We rushed their base twice, both times taking their only rt and removing all cysts. During this time the rest of the team built atrium and 3 rt's. We soon found out, as we moved from atrium, that the aliens had fast hived flight control. We held them off in crevice/summit for awhile denying them most of the map for a long time. Long enough for us to get most tech. You would think we marines had this game down, right? Well the aliens finally started pushing back. The aliens took out all but our two base rt's, datacore and atrium. We marines took 2 of their hives forgetting the harvesters. The aliens then rushed data core but we got back and saved it. This is the time where the match got really fun and the details got hazy. It became a game of really really hard pushes where one side or the other just steam rolled right through and took everything. The aliens took our atrium base. There was some trading of atrium and sub access as both teams rebuilt their comms/hives. The aliens kept taking our second bases and all our rt's and the we marines saving our base as. We marines kept taking all but one hive, and often their upgrades as we found them but never having time to take their rt's because they rushed our base. This went on for an hour of trading territory, and both teams almost winning. It was a long intense battle of massive alien res flow against the superior marine tech we acquired early game. Marines won. End of story. |

Looked at the video now, reminded me a lot of Aliens vs Predators. I wish there were predators.

If you have half life you can play Natural selection. Same idea and very similar gameplay. Game is so worth it though. If that isn't enough, the devs have mentioned having free weekends sometime after release.

The steam page. http://store.steampowered.com/app/4920/. This is a pre order, not beta access. You can join the game when it releases soon. Since I already bought the game, I just got a free second copy that I may or may not have a giveaway for on the forums.

Most of the ns2 community thinks it will be october 31. That just so happens to be the 10 year anniversary of NS1 1.0, and it maximizes time to polish the game.

I got and played NS2 two days ago. It is good, but not excellent imo. It is good enough where time flies when I play. However, I am dissapointed some things didn't make it into the game (like om nom nom nom onos from NS1).
I also felt that when a team starts losing, they will lose. They cant really turtle up. So once you lose an important ground, you are most likely screwed. I also don't like how the game makes 1 building important, those power nodes. Back then you had a choice of taking out phasegate or arms lab or advance armor and etc etc. It is still a good game though. |

There are very good ways to turtle as a marine. Aliens can turtle also but stuggle somewhat at that aspect. I think the devs want it that way. Again the more mainstream audience. They don't want 3 hours games trying to break a turtle. Most people don't seem to want to turtle either. They just f4 instead. The powernode is hottly debated in the uwe forums. The devs say it is staying in so thats that. |

It is unfortunate that game dev is making games for "general" players, but I guess they gotta do what they gotta do to make money and appeal to as many as possible.
I dunno. I had fun having a chance on the losing team to turn things around... or ninja hives with siege/shotguns. I hope they do balance it so if your team loses ground, they aren't screwed. As soon as your side loses an important room, its good game. I did wish for NS2 being NS1 with better graphics =p... Much like how I wish D3 was D2/D1 with better graphics. Well, I logged 14 hours in 3 days lol. Not too shabby. |
