EVGA GTX 580 Temps
just wondering if its normal for my 580 to hit 86c after playing bf3 for a straight hour, ive never had any of my old cards (both asus, 460 and 560ti) ever get over 64c. I was using Kombustor last night and the card only reached 65c MAX. My room is pretty warm, i have some loud fans that i got off a server case blowing into my room from my window and one directly hitting my computer with the side panel off. could it be the stock fan and heatsink thats on it? if so i got funds to spend on a decent aftermarket heatsink and fans if need be, i live 2 miles away from a frys and 8 miles away from another one, and microcenter sits right in between. maybe you guys can help me out here

Hi
Temps look how they should - http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/N...TX_580/30.html Edit: Hard for me to recommend an aftermarket air cooler as the GTX 580 generic cooler is good at getting hot air away from the GPU and strait out the back of the system. The aftermarket air coolers that I have seen have fans pushing air over the vga card and with the drawback of displacing the hot air from the vga card within the system adding to the thermal stress of other components. Disavantage: having to use thermal cement to attach heatsinks and ramsinks; fan control and monitoring through NV control panel and third party apps may also be disrupted. [Note: in most cases these days you would void your warrenty fitting an aftermarket cooler] atb (all the best) Law-II Last edited by Law-II; Aug 28, 2012 at 06:35 AM. Using Kompuster or newer Furmark will not give you accurate results concerning temps. The 500 series is "optimized" driver wise to drop core frequency whenever any of those programs are run. Thats why youre seeing higher temps in games rather than in a software thats supposed oven fry the gpu.
E: There is an older version of Furmark that 500 series graphics card doesnt recognize which can be used to get accurate temp results.

Use EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner and set a fan profile. Or just set the fan to a certain percentage (60% seems to work pretty good).
There is nothing wrong with hitting 86c with these cards. |

With the default fan profile it will go up to those temps. Nothing wrong, the GPU can take more than that but it will also heat up your case and house. Use EVGA precision or MSI afterburner and set a custom fan profile if you wish. My 570 SC (same GF110 GPU) goes up to 65C with 65% fan in BF3.
