It could be due to the stealth nature of the contest

Thus they should enter to win this awesome prize so they can boot into desktop faster and start work quicker!

I agree with you, but this prize is just too damn good to stay under the radar for this long.

my guess is overall laziness, as opposed to some of the other contests in the gaming section, Uncle Kreij's require one to actually use their brain. We all know how much of a pain that can be.

Dunno, I think an SSD is worth 20 minutes of me sitting here thinking of a clever response for the stealth contest. I like the way he handles these contests though... it's not just "plug & pray"... there's a little more involved. More interesting than a plug & pray contest for sure... and the stealth aspect attempts to keep out those that are only here for their own benefit while rewarding the others who come here not only to learn for themselves, but to help others as well.

This is why I hang around TPU... this great community. So many helpful people here that actually care about the person on the other side of the screen. All the people here who just give stuff to people who need it, and it's not always pc hardware. And hell, even if you're not in dire straits, if you stick around long enough you're bound to win something... not your average forum to be sure. Not a bunch of hotheaded know it all hotshots who look down on others for being less. This place is closer to a family than some online community.

Stealth contests mean lower entry participation which in turn means higher odds for any entrant to win.
Making people actually do something to win further narrows the field.
Having a random close date forces people to put up or GTFO.
This all works in the favor of those who tend to read my threads.

Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock ... DING Contest Closed
No entries accepted after this post, and any entries edited after this time disqualified.

Winner announced after I reread all entries. Could be a day or so ... I'm busy playing Eve Online (this is the gaming section after all).

This was a tough contest to judge with many good entries. So kudos to all for putting in the effort !!
Three entries stood out (to me at least) as being the best.

The rules stated, "make me want to buy this useless item".

So here is how it washed out (I forgot to mention there were runner up prizes too ... so sue me), and I am including my thoughts on them as I think you all deserve to see the reasoning behind my decisions. If you don't agree ... tough shit, it's my contest.

Runner-up #2 - Hat ... Prize : A $25 Newegg Gift Certificate or $25 worth of Steam games.
I really like the way you created a very believable Apple advert for the chair. Unfortunately the logo on the chair would prevent me from ever buying it, but it was still an excellent entry, with great selling points, and it captured the true i-essence of i-marketing in an i-world full of i-fans. Well done, Hat.

Runner-up #1 - Cadaveca ... Prize : A $50 Newegg Gift Certificate or $50 worth of Steam games
I really liked the "On The Edge" selling point and the aerodynamic, stainless steel, add-on was a great addition. Smoothly worded, this entry has some real-world selling potential, especially in the gaming market, and was another excellent entry. The addition at the bottom, "Some assembly required" made me lol. Well done, Dave.

THE WINNAAAR - D007 ... Prize : The SSD
Selling this useless item as an exercise machine is marketing genious and if made into an infommercial would sell lots of them as the market for worthless exercise crap is a multi-billion dollar industry. Even the names "Ergo-Dynamic Lumbar King" and "Ergo-Dyna XJ2" rolls easily off the tongue and is pure marketing bliss.
But it was the free Super King Deluxe Coffee Table I could hold my cup over that had me pulling out the plastic and going for the phone.
You said it worked for "Sketchers" ... well it worked for you too. Outstanding entry, D007.

Winners, PM me with what you want (D007 I just need your real name and address).

Thanks to all who entered. I really appreciate people taking time to have fun in my contests and to help make them lots of fun.
As always, keep an eye out for stealth contests as you never know when one will apear or who will make one !!

Well, looks like I can at least order a smaller SSD from Newegg and use the $25 to soften the hit on the wallet...

Yeah... make you want to buy the useless item... with all the Apple banter going on and the seemingly love/hate relationship with them, it was a risky move even going with that idea... but what the hell, I had fun typing it up. I figured I'd give it a shot.

BAH ... if you guys ever realized how much fun it is to have contests you would be having your own even if the prize was just a flash drive or something. People love to enter contests, especially TPU'ers.

If anyone ever wants to have a contest in the Games section and has any questions, feel free to PM me.

@Dave : PM me your email address when you get a chance for your prize.
