PC Build For a Mate
So I'm building this computer for one of my mates. He would like it to handle current games, as well as new ones coming out, such as Skyrim, COD, Portal 2, Assassins creed 3, etc. His budget is approximately around $2000. Now remeber, I'm in Australia, so everything is over priced
. Just wanted to see if there were any improvements that could be made to this build, Such as a different part that is better, for a little more money, or a similar part that is cheaper.CPU: i7 3770k MB: Gigabyte Z77-D3H or ASUS P8Z77-V-LX RAM: Gskill ripjawz 1866mhz 8G (4G x2) HDD: Seagate 1TB 7200rpm SATA3 HDD G/C: Sapphire HD7970 2G ODD: Samsung SH-222 DVD ROM CASE: Antec Six Hundred PSU: Antec 750w TurePower COOLER: Thermaltake Contac 39 CPU Cooler O.S.: Windows 7 Pro 64bit MONITOR: ASUS VE247H Thanks |

If he is only playing games, then consider the 3570K. It performs more or less similarly to the 3770K but should be about $100 cheaper. Consider an SSD too, that will be the next biggest boost.

It looks like a pretty solid list. Is he just going to be gaming with it? Doing any kind of encoding or video editing for example? If not could save a little cash going with a 3570K if has no need for alot of heavy Multi-threaded usage. That's all I have to "critique"
![]() Edit Fourstaff "Ninja'd me but on the exact same page anyway

![]() Should be negligible performance hit between the 3570K and 3770K, unless you run heavily multithreaded tasks (which currently doesn't include games). 0-5% hit depending on games should be a good starting ballpark if you really want a number. A good summary: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...k_6.html#sect0 |

No messing around here
Straight goods![]() I mean I went "all out" and got a 2600K didn't real need it I do some encoding and it certainly does fly for the most part for that. But yeah unless your buddy really feels the need for "top dog" he isn't gonna miss the threads. As suggested put the cash saved into an SSD. Plenty of guides on how to set up your Windows install to use your "Slave" HDD fpr all things storage leaving the SSD tidy and just running the OS. Edit: I just checked your Specs. I see you couldn't resist the the pull of "the best" either
