TPU server move completed!

I just finished moving TPU to a new web host with shiny new Ivy Bridge Xeons.

Please report any issues you encounter

Wow! When I generally click on a link on TPU I get there instantly. Now, it is even more instant.. if that makes any sense. Snappy!

It will be even faster soon, once the DNS records are updated.

Servers used to be in Texas, now in Chicago

I have to say TPU was pretty fast already. So I guess there are economic or strategy reasons for the move... not performance ones. Unless w1z is about to go VIDEO on us!

Actually seems a little slower here, just a 1/2s , though I am based in the UK, hopefully it will be as fast as it was previosuly when the DNS records are updated?

Performance is never bad. And could be part of it, lots of people from the US/CA on here and Chicago is much more centralized than Texas is.

Softlayer pricing is ridiculous. Last time we got a good deal by asking sales directly, now they quoted us a worse deal than I can get by clicking on the website .. twice ..

I got no other complaints with Softlayer. But now we have much faster servers at lower pricing and a (hopefully) equally good network.

I'll be monitoring page generation times (server side) and page load times (in your browser)

We moved to Chicago as it has about 20 ms better latency for euro people, who make up a significant part of our userbase. The difference for US readers should be negligible.

I can't login from work. My home machine that remembers my login however, does work. (I never sign out at home.)

It says I've failed to login too many times, but it said that at the first try and the login info was correct!

I notice the difference in speed as well. Not saying it wasn't quick before. But use to get at least 3/4 to a full circle of load on Chrome, now it's only about 1/4 of a turn (if even that).

DNS should be updated

Old IP: 208.43.3.154
New IP: 173.249.152.206

You can check with ping www.techpowerup.com or nslookup www.techpowerup.com in the command line whether you got the new IP.

When I enter my login info and try to login, I get the a nice page that says I've tried to log in too many times and I'm locked out for 15 minutes. I posted a screen shot of it in my last post.

I don't know why TPU took so long to do this.

It makes a big difference when a website is instantly instant.

I found the problem. Currently for users with the old DNS all traffic is forwarded to the new server. This means that the new server sees the IP of the old server as your IP.

The login strikes system records accesses based on IP, so everybody who's failing login triggers one strike for that IP.

I turned off the login strikes system for now

This explains the "502 Bad Gateway" page I was getting earlier. Everything is good now!
