Wiz, we should have talked. I could have hosted with my new 4P 48core Opteron rig.

I did not notice any speed increase, but TPU was already a very fast site compared to most of the other places on the internet. Now, as I red this thread, I think it feels a little faster, but that could be placebo as well

Well, after all, faster server are always better, so thanks.

having a fast responsive site is a very high priority for us. it's not only hosting but also site design and optimization that plays a role in that

Datacenter on a submarine? Sounds like a plan... anybody got a couple billion dollars to spare?

Xeons are also faster clock for clock. Also keep in mind that the code that the server is executing (interpreting,) is PHP which is single-threaded and we all know Intel is winning the single-thread game.

Nice and snappy, not to say it didn't feel quick before.

that's exactly why you are seeing a faster site now, Kentsfield Xeons to Ivy Bridge Xeons which are much faster clock to clock, so the single threaded page generation times go down.

You replied, and made a change (I think) where the history of articles loading on the front page was shorter so the front page loaded faster. It was a few months back.

Ill be honest its a lil' slower to me. Sometimes when I go to post it takes a few seconds. Or if I refesh the page it also can take a few seconds. Not all the time but about 2 out of 5 refreshes. I tried it on two PC's and a Mac. All have the same issue.

Its not a big deal mind ya. Just being honest.

This speed test is with me streaming music and uploading a 500MB file.

Equinix Chicago! Awesome, the TPU server is only 25 Minutes from my work office! I could go visit the server and give it a hug...but I'd probably get shottazed, I've seen their security...

It was slower on my droid using 3g and it's ok on my desktop.... I think smaller profile datacenters are better then larger ones like rackspace, softlayer, etc... becuase RS,SL spend way too much money on extra fluff like merch that nobody cares about (I saw a rackspace baby bib for crying out loud!!! and they built this tech town and do all kinda other PR fluff) and companies like rackspace have older servers... rackspace cloud is a joke it's not real cloud and I heard the same for softlayer cloud... totally not cool.

Good on the steadfast selection. Low key, and heard good things about them. I think they host a couple larger restaurant company sites too.

All images on the actual TPU server (not externally linked) come up as broken for me now and the site has slowed down considerably. I'm not sure if its the internet here as there have been issues over the past couple of days, but TPU is consistently like this now
