It really is not that much different, the cost of a reasonable graphics card + BD player is usually almost equivalent to the cost of a PS3. You get to have 2(!) entertainment devices, leave your dog on the PS3 while you enjoy the nets etc. Of course there is the cost of a TV which complicates things.

The next gen will not be as big a jump like in the past. Its not gonna be a Xbox to Xbox 360 and a PS2 to PS3 kinda jump. Its just not gonna happen. It will have some minor increases but that's about it. The WiiU is a great indicator without even having an inside line.

what is amazing is that the new PS3 design is essentially the same size as a typical bluray player.

It still has crappy wireless IEEE 802.11 b/g NO "N" ! and only 2x USB 2.0. PS3 it still one of the only modern day consoles that keeps downgrading its self with fewer features... This most likely means that next gen console will be held off till 2014. The newer PS3 will consume Approx. 190w!! While the Xbox 360 Approx. 100w... The PS3 still uses its crappy Cell Broadband Engine CPU and RSX GPU, with only 256MB XDR Main Ram and 256 GDDR3 VRAM. I don't see how these companies can keep coming out with the same thing, but just smaller. They must be afraid that if they don't come out with something really good then they will loose lots of money.

Me neither. I predict this one will have optical drive issues after a year of use. Either the sensors or the hinges will fail.

Yup...
I was a console gamer until I tried pc.. Makes me sad people don't enjoy their games to the fullest. It's like watching a movie in 480p, then watching it in 1080p.. Just no comparison..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_36...t_of_revisions PS3: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlaySta...Configurations I wasn't implying that the console actually took 190w, but considering the XBOX 360 started with a 203w (now 115w) PSU and the PS3 started with a 380w (now 190w) PSU, who is the power winner here? Unless Sony really oversizes their PSUs which must cost a decent amount of money to do, it seems like the XBOX takes less based solely on power supply specifications. PS3 has had a 40nm RSX and 45nm CBE for a while now, as well as XBOX 360 and its 45nm XCGPU.

I think it looks ugly compared to the slim model we have now. But whatever, if it's cheaper that's all that matters. It's good for late adopters who haven't got a PS3 yet.
Still though I gotta say... no N? I know its been mentioned. But I just realized the other day that the current slim model still only runs wireless G and I was surprised at that! Lets see we can do 54Mbps peak wireless on a good day, if I line my outer walls in tin-foul and do a good luck dance or I can use a wire and get 1,000Mbps. Gigabit LAN and Wireless G sure go good together for contrast. They did on the original model back in 2006 and apparently they still do in 2012! |

![]() I must admit it does look kinda cheap. But then the Drives failing on the previous models was not an unknown occurrence either. My WTF? is the Cooling? I mean it appears to have none that I can see. Mine has a behemoth of a cooler in it's and it certainly cooling it. Could prolly melt cheese on bread next to the vents when it's been going on for awhile. I mean fine they have shrunk the process over time but it still has to be generating at least some significant amount of heat. I remember playing LA Noire for a good session and had never heard my fans get that loud and was just waiting for it to YLOD on me from the strain.

Huge improvement when I had my ps3 on CFW and my games on the HDD, but now I just installed the official firmware and apart from loading saves, nope... is there a way to "install" games on the HDD? lol

I bought a slim PS2 when the PS3's were out. When the PS3's came out they were so expensive and there was no good games. I figured I'm going to get a cheap PS2 now so I can still play GT4! I thought it was awesome you could still buy new PS2's for under $200, and at the time the PS3 was like $500! Actually I think a lot of people still bought the slim PS2's at that time because PS2 games were still coming out. Once again it was just a cheap alternative for the non-hardcore console gamers. The Rock Band phenomenon didn't kick off until really late in the PS2's life too so that helped revamp PS2 sales after the slim model came out and into the PS3 era. The PS3 is old. Six years old. But it was so slow to start out. No one bought them in the first year and it really didn't start to gain serious momentum until two years in. Really I might even guess 3 years in or around the time the slim PS3 came out is when it finally took off to the full extent. So I think Sony knows they have to push on with it for at least another year now. Last edited by MN12BIRD; Sep 20, 2012 at 04:21 AM. |

LOL funny you should say that. I moved to Europe and sold all my PS2 gear all except my Memory Cards. So I missed out on GT4. So after getting my PS3 you wanna bet the first game I bought was GT4 Platinum. Well of course I wanted to use my GT3 save on my licenses. Well on the official PS Forums there was a thread where they were mailing around a Memory Card Reader so you could dump your Memory Cards onto PS3(you get Virtual Memory Cards) I signed up and it got mailed to me and I had been waiting to even start the game without my saves. I dumped my Memory Card(and my PS1 card as well) Well job done put in the post to the next user on the list. Fired up GT4 all excited, went to the menu to load my GT3 saves....NADA, No saves found! ![]() NTSC saves aren't compatible with PAL games. I was devastated. All the hours I put into GT3 trapped forever...
