Changing out hard drive in laptop?
If you guys were going to change out a hard drive in a laptop to something faster? would you get a hybrid SSD drive like the Seagate Momentus XT 500GB or get a legit 128GB-256GB SSD?
Seagate Momentus XT ST95005620AS 500GB 7200 RPM 32... I was looking that that for my school laptop. It has a 500GB 5400rpm drive in it now. Kind of slow.

It depends on how much mass storage you want. I personally use an 80GB SSD in my laptop. I stream most of my media anyway, and I've always got my 1TB external on hand. MUCH longer battery life with SSD only storage, and no fear of moving it around and losing data compared to a HDD.

Are typical 2.5inch 5400rpm drives about 9.5mm think? Or do I need to go even thinner if I get an SSD?
Because I was looking at this. Intel 330 Series Maple Crest SSDSC2CT120A3K5 2.5" ...

Standard height is 9.5mm. Some drives are thick (12.5mm), and newer varieties for ultrabooks can be 7mm.
That Intel 330 would be a good choice, but you can save quite a bit of money by going with a different brand. Is your laptop SATAIII 6.0Gbps capable, or are you still on SATAII?

You might also want to consider taking the original HDD and putting it into a cheap enclosure and making it an external drive.

sounds like a fair idea. I think my laptop is SATA II still. It does have USB 3.0 though, so it could have SATA 3

actually i think its SATA 3. Its a Llano A6 chip, so its running FM1 chipset board, and they all have SATA 6
