Send W1zzard a PM and see if he's willing to do it. I don't know why you wouldn't want to stay though, this is such a great place to be, especially on days I'm not an asshole.

People cannot delete their accounts. It would orphan all their threads and posts which would be a bad thing.

^ this

it would break too many threads, if your posts got deleted.

we can ban your account from posting... but you can do the same thing by just not posting. Why do you want it deleted in the first place?

Yes, you can check-in, but never out.

If someone has access to your computer, just change the PW here and on your computer.

Or are you a little uneasy with the latest privacy issues around the net when the president executive order made it legal for ISPs, blogs, forums, social media sites, etc. to keep anything you post, tweet, "like" comment for indefinitely until a time that the government can and will use this information against you as it see fit in a court of law? Per the Miranda rights, You have the right to remain silent (5th amendment), anything you say (post, like, tweet, comment on the internet) can and will be held against you in a court of law.

Since the order was issued back in March and took affect April 1st, many people have backed out of posting across the web in large numbers. Some people are deleting their accounts in forums, blogs, yahoo, gmail, hotmail, FB, myspace, LinkedIn, etc to avoid the personal stuff leaked out that is permittivity now government ready accessible. Also now, mining bots are using databases to link peoples anonymous pseudo accounts to the real ones. Thus, nothing is undetected.

Even the recent event over at OCN made public news recently ...

If you can't delete your account, you can edit out the contents of your post and ask the staff for a name change. It won't work that well if people quoted you or referred to your user name.

Why would I want my account deleted, I'll tell you

Because your forums got owned and my personal information was seen by hackers. I find this extremely offending that I cannot remove my information from your system. Had I known this, I would have never signed up.

Please delete my account, the damage has been done, let me move on before you get owned again.

As far as corrupted messages if an account is removed, that's NO excuse, I'm sure this was taken into consideration when they developed this forum software, its not going to blow things up.

Please respect people's privacy. REMOVE me.

Then you're incredibly close minded because I bet that this forum is the least of your personal information concerns.

You also agreed to the EULA which contains...

Talking to people like that is only going to get you negativity in return. I am very sorry that this happened to you, as we all are I am sure, and remember that you are not the only one.

The closest thing you can do is make it a dead account, change the password and notifications, email ect. The idea is to leave little trace of yourself bar your username and posts.

(said in a mystic voice)

If you really have the same password on 392 other sites you visit you need to CHECK YO SELF before you CRY LIKE A BITCH and fix up your own security vulnerabilities...... how about getting a different password for each site and it wont be a problem????

Also, regardless of the security breech here at TPU... my email account that I used to sign up here has seen NO spam/take-over attempts OR malicious actions since (no, I don't use the same password for everything so I was safe in that respect any way!) so why its a big issue I'm not sure.

People just like to complain I guess.....

Very good point there, I suppose W1zzard can get rid of your personal details (which should only consist of your email and password), effectively purging you off the system.

How much private information was seem? I am sure you have other accounts out on the internet that have been stolen also. Also we got 'owned' because someone wanted to place ads on TPU to make money? This is a forum not online banking. TPU handled the breach much better than others who asked you to reset your password instead of forcing you.

You've made 4 posts in 3 years... Really you've got nothing in this forum. max they ask for your name, email.... if that's too much get off the internet, plenty of secure sites were hacked a few summers ago. NOTHING is unhackable!
