I wasn't old enough to have owned such "vintage" gfx card but i still have my dad's first pc, i think it first had an Intel MMX 233MHz CPU and an S3 Trio64v+ 2MB card,
but it got upgraded in time by my brother to an AMD K6-2 450 and a Voodoo2 G111 with an S3 Savage3D 8MB
it still runs games like thief 2 and DeusEx on WinME like a boss

I had a Matrox Mystique 8mb (expandable to 16mb!) "3D Accelerator" back in the day in my old P200 MMX machine. I remember buying a Riva TNT 16mb PCI (yeah, PCI!!!) to replace it; those were the days. I always remember hacking drivers to get Quake 2 to run in OpenGL on it; various things like lighting wouldn't work so it was kind of a cheat at the same time.

After I left home I was able to start affording other GFX cards. Had an AthlonXP machine with a Ti4600, that was then replaced with a 9700PRO, then X800Pro, then X800XT (processor upgrades and motherboard swaps were made in progress as well).

Have had many other cards in the years following but those early days with the Mystique being my first "3d accelerator" were awesome.

I had a Radeon 9500 or 9700 (can't remember which) SE version that I was able to softmod into the Pro version with W1z's patch.

I had a Radeon 7000 that I was able to figure out a voltage mod for the VDDQ (sounds like a bad night at the ice cream shop).

I had a Radeon 8500 that I killed using a GPU artifact testing program that always showed results were good. I pushed the voltage up crazy high and still got no artifacts found in the test. However, the real artifacts started showing up everywhere over the next few days.

I had a Voodoo 3 2000 card that I eventually replaced, then tried to learn how to solder on it. lol

Beige is beautiful era...

Rarest of the rare when it comes to Mac cards. The Micro Conversions Voodoo 2 12MB. Still have it and it still works.
Then 2 Voodoo 5 5500s. Never could get them SLI. Couldn't figure out how to get a cable. I'd ask PC tech shops and they'd go "Whats SLI?"
Radeon 7000...because I couldn't find a 7200 and because OSX wouldn't support 3Dfx.
Radeon Mac Edition (7200)
Radeon 9200 128MB PCI

Then the Cube era...
Rage Pro 128
Think I found a Radeon 7500 at some point, dunno
2 Radeon 9000s, broke one somehow and fried the AGP riser doing the relocation mod
Radeon 8500
Flashed Radeon 9700 Pro from PC, overheated and died within 10 sec
Then finally, Geforce 3...with several resistors popped off board thanks to guy shipping it in an envelope and not box.

Quicksilver project unfinished...
Geforce 2MX
Flashed Geforce 7800GS...no DVI working but rest worked fine.

PC era...
Think it was a Geforce 2MX or 4MX that I was given.
First PC GPU I bought was the FX5600 non ultra
Radeon 9700 Pro, which ended up fried in that Cube project
Geforce 7800GS G70...still working in Quicksilver
Radeon X1900XT...dead, overheated VRMs
Geforce 8800GTS 640MB, was given this one
Radeon 3870...was interesting because it compared well with the 8800. Some titles it would win, others lose.
Geforce GTX 460 1GB...then eventually a 2nd for SLI

Favorite era...Beige and Cube era. Was when I was really experimenting a lot to tweak and get all the performance I could from my Macs. Gain just a few more fps in UT. Risky overclocks, doing things Apple would frown on to get more performance. Blew a few parts but man, it was fun times. In hindsight tho...man I wasted a lot of money on those projects.

My old desktop is currently using a Geforce4 440MX AGP8x, After it's Geforce 6800 began artifacting.

Never bought any of them though, just helped financing. So to that end, I've never personally bought a graphics card. :S

First GPU I bought was a ATI 9600 XT (Saphire). I wanted a ATI 9800 XT, however they were well outside of my price range
The 9600 though allowed me to play DOOM 3, Half-Life series and Quake 4

Pretty much the same here. I purchased a 486DX 50mhz that had 2mb of ram. Then I went out and spent about $300 on 4mb of ram so the system would run Doom smoothly. Then later purchased a Diamond Monster 8mb 3DFX video card to play Quake smoothly and run with good graphics.

For some of you that don't know, we have an awesome little Nostalgic hardware club with great pictures and several members here:

Its a great place to check out some good ole hardware out.

I dont think the program would even launch

I was going to use 3D Mark 2001 SE and some other very old low end GPU benchmark programs, like gtx gears.
