Do I need to oc my cpu for my new msi gtx 660?

I had a Club 3d gtx 560 coolstream and now i am waiting for my msi gtx 660 , my cpu is a i7 870 and still when i use softeware that can oc my cpu, it frezzes (got an asus mb instead of the asrock i had) so oc still has to be done in bios.

I don't Know the oc potentiel of my Asus P7H55 vs my asrock, but i guess it's slightly better.

Do i need to oc my cpu to get full advantage of my msi gtx 660? (had it up to 150 bclk with turbo and hyper threading enabled,stable), any surgestion to oc setting (different bios adjustments with my asus then my asrock mb)

As an owner of the GTX 660 Msi OC edition, I can say no you do not need to OC your CPU, though some games are more CPU intensive so if you are confident in your abilities at OC'ing, give it a shot.

I just bought the MSI 660 Ti PE OC. I was glad to see it dropped $10 in price and has another $10 rebate offer this month like they did last month. I gave up on trying to find anything about EVGA's new 660 Ti with non ref air cooler. They just aren't interested in sending out and review samples, and I won't buy on faith alone, esp when the MSI card has fared so well in site and customer reviews.

I'm running a i7 950 CPU with a mere GTS 250 1GB right now that I put a 12.5% OC on. I have a mere one step multiplier bump on my CPU, with HyperThreading and Turbo Boost disabled, so it's running at just 3.2GHz. I'm going to leave it at that for now and compare my own benches to that of some trusted site benches like TPU, then decide if I want to OC the CPU.

I also plan on relegating my GTS 250 to PhysX card duties. The list of PhysX supported games is neither extensive nor easy to find accurate, up to date data on, but I do own several titles that use it.

Honestly, unless you have a severely unbalanced system with a bad bottleneck, CPU OCing, esp with extremely high clock speeds, is a bit blown out of proportion. While you DO see results, typically the games that produce the best results are already running at well over 60 FPS anyway, so you often won't see those results in game.
