Keyboards, where do you fit?

I'm not sure about the application of backlight for others, but my opinions are:

1. Too flashy, I like my performance parts not to be like "HEY! LOOK AT ME!"
2. I know where all of my keys are on the keyboard. I never have to look at my keyboard.

I do not fall under any of those options listed. I'm an arrow key player (we're a dying breed). I use a 7 year-old $10 General Electric branded keyboard that still uses the PS/2 port And because the way they designed it, they chopped off a 1/3 of the right shift button and placed the slash/question mark button to the right of it, effectively giving me an extra button that isn't too far away from the reach of the arrow keys for me to use.
In short, all I need is a plain ~104 key keyboard and I'm good.

I can tell my lack-of-verbatim-options are preventing people from participating. Viper.. option 2 would be great for you. People who don't care about mechanical keyboards don't necessarily want crap keyboards. They usually just don't equate mechanical switch cost with quality.

This would fit #1+5, but would also fit 1, 2, and 2+5. If the vague answer is better for you choose the vague answer, but not answering the poll and writing about your dream kb here is far less helpful than answering the poll and writing about your keyboard here.

I just went to a mechanical board myself used a G15 since they came out just thought I would see what the fuss is about. I was going to buy a Black Widow but my local best buy was sold out so I went to my local Hastings and they had the Steelseries boards in stock so i picked up a 6GV2 thinking if I didnt like it I would just take it back. About the first week I really didnt like it I just didnt like the key layout. I kept using it and after the second week I got the hang of it and love it. I dont mind the clicky noise to be honest, and I do get a better response from the board I dont seem to miss as many keystrokes with it. I will say this tho only complaint I really have is the paint on the keys after about the first 4 hours of playing bf3 the A,S,D,W,E,R,X,C, keys look very faded like the paint was already worn off. Makes you think you have used the board for a long time. Easy fix tho I contacted steelseries and they sent a new set of keys the replacements dont seem as bad.

I didn't vote as I always use split key, ergonomic keyboards as I type a lot and I can type a lot faster on them. A separate keypad is also a must have for me.
I don't really care if it's wireless or not (mine is currently wired). The mouse MUST be wireless, though.
Mine has a whole bunch of special keys for audio and surfing and stuff, but the only one I ever use is the one that launches the calculator.

I currently use a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000.
If someone invents a self-cleaning keyboard I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Not to sound overly frustrated, but why didn't you vote again? I didn't mention stuff like ergo, ANSI, ISO, or DVORAK because that's like a keyboard sub-sub genre...

Sounds like you could go 1+4 or 2+4 :-/

Option 2 does not fit me... "Switches are all hype, I would not pay those mechanical keyboard prices."

Certain mechanical switches are superior in tactile feel and performance (my own opinion from use of keyboards for 30+ years); and, I do not consider them hype.
And, I would gladly pay a reasonable price for any quality keyboard of my desires (mech or not).

I chose 1 & 3, but price is definitely a concern, and my budget for a keyboard or any peripheral is usually $50. I had to compromise by using Antec's Halo 6 Lighting Bias LED strips and a USB on/off switch to get backlighting for an extra $10.

Um ... I want a quality keyboard but don't care about the switches and don't care about the macro/function keys and don't care if it's wireless, but it has to be ergo.

I didn't see any combinations that fit that. Sorry Binge.

Haha, it's actually pretty cool, and not too overpowering in an upright sitting position. It needs to be turned off if I'm on my bed watching a movie or something, which is why I made sure to get an on/off switch.

I voted 4 i think? Currently i use a G15 and i enjoy using it also I like back-lite keys at night. I would buy a mechanical keyboard if the price is right. I Have a big desk so size never is a worry, like having volume control and other little gadgets. Never liked wireless anything. Also enjoyed some of the comic relief in this thread discussing keyboards.

I'm the happy owner of a Cherry MX Red Corsair K90 which must be one of the largest mechanical keyboards out there, with 18 macro keys, media controls, blue backlight and windows lock key - oh and an aluminium volume scrolling wheel

Technology already exists. Hall effect keyboards are proximity and are often used in industrial applications which require pressure sensitive keys. Believe it or not they also exist in the triggers of video game controllers. For general typing the use of pressure sensitive keys would be turned off. The more recent game-pad designed pressure sensitive keys are not a recent development, and the hall effect keys have been around since the late 70s. Gaming has made these switches a bit more mainstream but I'd hardly call it a recent development.

Would completely negate the reason for buying controllers with joysticks when any four keys could act as a joystick.
